Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visits Vietnam

At the invitation of Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand is visiting and working in Vietnam from August 13-15. On the morning of August 13, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan had a meeting with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is the daughter of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the younger sister of the current King Maha Vajiralongkorn. She has visited Vietnam many times and implemented a number of charity and educational projects. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's visit to Vietnam this time contributes significantly to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in many fields, thereby creating a solid foundation for the two sides to promote cooperation, especially in education and people-to-people exchange.

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is expected to visit Nam Cuong Primary School in Lao Cai and Nguyen Tat Thanh Primary School in Quang Tri. At the end of March, a musical piece about Vietnam titled “Vietnam at peace” with lyrics written by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand was performed at Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok). The Princess herself participated in the performance of the Thai erhu in Vietnamese traditional dress. “Vietnam at peace” is a 68-verse poem composed by Princess Sirindhorn, which records her good impressions and feelings about the natural landscape of the country and people of Vietnam. The poem was adapted into 9 songs based on Thai and Vietnamese music, with a total duration of 50 minutes. The musical piece “Vietnam at peace” combines many forms of music such as orchestra, choir and dance. Many familiar melodies such as "Trong Com," "Ly Ngua O," "Beo Dat May Troi," "Co La"... were introduced to the audience with the accompaniment of the Princess. Every year, the "Thai Princess Award for Teachers with Many Contributions to Education and the Community" is presented to an outstanding teacher from each member country of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), including Vietnam. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn pays special attention to creating opportunities for children to go to school, especially children in remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas. The Princess is also interested in sponsoring many projects to improve the quality of life for the younger generation in disadvantaged areas.

In Vietnam, since 2006, the Princess has sponsored the Project “Improving the quality of life for children and adolescents in the Asia-Pacific region”. This project has been implemented in three disadvantaged educational institutions in Northern Vietnam, namely Ninh My Primary School (Ninh Binh), Hung Thang Primary and Secondary School (Quang Ninh) and Cao Son Secondary School (Hoa Binh). The Princess also took many photos during her visits to Vietnam from 1993-2003. From these documents, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand compiled the photo book “Vietnam through the lens of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn”, including 100 photos expressing the Princess’s affection for Vietnam.
