This morning, August 13, the Council of Rectors of universities in Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to review activities in the first 6 months of the year and deploy key tasks for the last 6 months of 2024, chaired by Mr. Phan Van Mai - Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

The Board of Principals has contributed solutions to solve the problems of Ho Chi Minh City.

The theme of this conference is "Solutions to develop the university education network in the city in the context of international integration".

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai assessed that the activities of the Council of Rectors of universities in Ho Chi Minh City have begun to make quality contributions to the city's development orientation and contribute solutions to solve Ho Chi Minh City's problems.

Mr. Mai suggested that in August 2024, the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Home Affairs discuss with the chairmen of the industry councils to review and assign a city department to participate as a standing unit in the industry council.

From here, this department is responsible for creating conditions for the sector council to operate and connect with the city's orientation, strategy, and plan; solving difficulties and problems regarding mechanisms...

According to Mr. Mai, currently in the preparation stage for implementing the city planning, he suggested that the Department of Planning and Architecture send documents to schools for reference to propose implementing this planning.

Also in August 2024, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will chair a conference to orient the development of documents for the city congress, mainly on socio-economic issues, so representatives of the council of principals of various sectors will be invited to contribute their opinions.

Regarding the mechanisms, first of all, we will apply Resolution 31 of the Politburo to then apply Resolution 98, Resolution 131 of the National Assembly and Decree 84 of the Government. Regarding Resolution 131 on urban government, Ho Chi Minh City will summarize this resolution and propose a new resolution. "We need a law like the Capital Law and the Ho Chi Minh City Special Urban Law," Mr. Mai emphasized.

Quickly complete the university urban area as planned

At the conference, Chairman Phan Van Mai requested: "It is necessary to focus on solving the problems of universities. How can Ho Chi Minh City National University quickly form a university urban area as planned? Ho Chi Minh City National University is the largest university center, so it is necessary to quickly remove difficulties and problems for implementation. At the same time, soon form a university area with 500 hectares in Binh Chanh".

Regarding the project of training human resources with international standards, Mr. Mai said that there are currently products of 5 projects, so they need to be immediately converted into plans for implementation this week.

Regarding startup universities, the Department of Science and Technology is studying the ministry's criteria to complete the framework, especially the policy. It is necessary to quickly invest in startup university centers at universities in Ho Chi Minh City.

Regarding the project to build Ho Chi Minh City into an ASEAN human resource training center, according to Mr. Mai, the Department of Education and Training has consulted with departments, sectors, and universities to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

"From now until the end of the year, we need to focus on achieving concrete results. Comments on the implementation of planning, comments on the development of documents, and the socio-economic plan for the next 5 years, with a vision to 2045, require the wisdom of the university community.

We hope that teachers will actively participate and start working from this month. The departments assigned to work with the sectors need to proactively exchange information," Mr. Mai suggested.

Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy is the permanent vice president of the Ho Chi Minh City Council of Principals.

The conference announced the decisions of the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on adding and replacing members of the Ho Chi Minh City Council of Principals.

Specifically, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy - Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - took on the role of Permanent Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City Council of Principals (replacing Mr. Duong Anh Duc who has transferred to another job);

Mr. Nguyen Bac Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City - is a member of the Council of Principals and Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Thuy - Deputy Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - is the deputy head of the working group assisting the Council of Principals of Ho Chi Minh City.
