Recently, a foreign female tourist posted a short video recording her experience enjoying banh beo at a sidewalk stall in Hoi An ancient town (Quang Nam).

The video received nearly 1 million views and thousands of comments and shares. Viewers were attracted by the fluent English speaking ability and quick response of the banh beo seller.

After being introduced by the restaurant owner, the female tourist tried two plates of banh beo for 10,000 VND. She found this street food made from rice flour quite interesting, with a delicious flavor when combined with spicy and sweet fish sauce.

According to research, the video was filmed at Mrs. Bay's Banh Beo shop on Hoang Van Thu Street, Hoi An. This is a sidewalk stall, but has been open for about 40 years. The current owner is Ms. Tran Hong Thao.

According to Ms. Thao, Hoi An banh beo is different from Hue banh beo in the red sauce made from shrimp and meat. The soft banh beo is served with dried shrimp, fragrant fried onions and crispy fried cao lau.

Normally, banh beo is placed on a small plate and then arranged 6-10 plates on a bamboo tray. The dipping sauce is made from fish sauce, fat, sugar, vinegar, garlic and chili. Each restaurant owner has his own recipe for mixing the dipping sauce to get the right amount of saltiness, sweetness and spiciness.

In addition to banh beo, the shop also has banh nam and banh loc, both made in traditional flavors. The shop usually opens at 2pm and sells out at 5pm.

This address has long been famous on social networks, praised as one of the best banh beo shops in Hoi An.
