Improve the quality and value of agricultural products
Son La currently has more than 85,000 hectares of fruit trees and hawthorn, with an estimated output of 510,000 tons in 2025. Many agricultural products have reached international markets, including demanding markets such as the US, Europe, Japan, and South Korea, opening up great opportunities for Son La fruit products.
Mr. Vu Tien Dinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: The Department coordinates with localities to restructure crop varieties suitable for each region's climate, apply crop spreading and spacing techniques, harvest year-round; expand production areas according to VietGAP standards; closely monitor implementation and issue planting area codes to enterprises and cooperatives.
To date, the province has built and maintained 308 safe food supply chains with over 4,500 hectares, producing about 50,000 tons/year; granted 218 growing area codes on an area of 3,142 hectares, with over 35,000 tons meeting export standards.
Mai Son is currently taking care of more than 11,500 hectares of fruit trees, with an estimated output of 86,500 tons this year. According to Ms. Cam Thi Khay, Vice Chairwoman of the District People's Committee, the locality is focusing on guiding people to produce using high technology, organic agriculture, following the chain and building agricultural product brands. The district is also rearranging inefficient cooperatives, supporting the expansion of facilities in need and granting packaging codes for export.
In Yen Chau district, there are currently 12,150 hectares of fruit trees, with an estimated output of about 87,000 tons. The district has 3 high-tech agricultural zones, 36 growing area codes and 1 packaging facility for export. This year, the district aims to consume and process about 77,620 tons domestically, and export 9,380 tons of fresh fruit to markets such as China, Australia, Japan, Korea, Russia, Mongolia and the UK...
Mr. Lo The Thi, Vice Chairman of Yen Chau District People's Committee, informed: The district is focusing on attracting businesses and key units to expand the market for key agricultural products. At the same time, it coordinates to organize online sales training, support cooperatives and production households to participate in fairs, seek partners, and sign consumption contracts. The district also encourages cooperatives to invest in storage warehouses and processing facilities to reduce the pressure on fresh fruit consumption; directs to strengthen management and develop product brands such as "Yen Chau round mango", "Yen Chau banana"; promote quality control along the chain, apply VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards and equivalent.
Market initiative
In 2025, Son La province strives to achieve a value of 35.2 million USD in exported fruit products. Of which, 16,400 tons of mango; 4,100 tons of longan; 8,000 tons of banana; 2,350 tons of passion fruit and some other fruits. From the beginning of the year, the province has directed departments, branches and localities to develop agricultural product consumption markets, ensuring two principles: early and from afar.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Cuong, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: The Department regularly updates the customs clearance situation at border gates with China to support businesses, cooperatives and people in regulating import and export activities. At the same time, it participates in trade promotion conferences, works with units of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to propose support for Son La to develop e-commerce, boost consumption and export of key agricultural products.
In addition, the province continues to organize clean agricultural product weeks in Hanoi and Hai Phong. Open training courses for businesses and cooperatives on livestream skills on e-commerce platforms. At the same time, promote the consumption of agricultural products through digital platforms such as Zalo, TikTok, YouTube, etc. to promote, connect and consume products. The province also gradually transforms digitally in trade promotion, shifting from traditional forms such as fairs and product weeks to organizing working groups to work directly with corporations, businesses, supermarkets, factories, tourist destinations, etc. to expand the consumption market.
As a unit that produces, processes, and exports a variety of agricultural products, Mr. Vu Dang Ke, Director of Muong Bu Cooperative, Muong La District, informed: Currently, on average every 3 days, the Cooperative exports a truckload of 5 tons of agricultural products to wholesale markets and clean agricultural product stores in Hanoi, the number of trips will increase when the main harvest season begins. The Cooperative focuses on three factors: Ensuring quality with a distinctive flavor; organizing large-scale production, applying technology to reduce costs; supporting small traders to compete on price, expanding the consumption market.
Attracting investment in agricultural processing
In the period of 2021-2023, Son La province attracted investment in 11 large-scale agricultural processing projects, of which 10 projects were granted new investment policies. In 2024, the province received 4 investment project proposals, of which, decisions approving investment policies were granted, investors were approved for 3 projects, with a total registered investment of 633.8 billion VND, and a land use area of 13.27 hectares.
Mr. Le Toan Thang, Director of the Instant Cereal and Dried Fruit Factory, VFI Investment Trading Production Joint Stock Company (Hanoi), said: We are speeding up the construction progress of the factory in Mai Son Industrial Park, striving to complete it by the end of the third quarter of this year. With a production scale of 720 tons of Granula cereal, 300 tons of powdered cereal, 2,800 tons of dried fruit/year, when operating, it will need about 15,000 tons of raw materials/year. We are focusing on finding and developing effective raw material areas, ensuring high output and quality.
In 2025, Doveco Son La Fruit and Vegetable Processing Center will not only maintain traditional products but also install the first fruit canning line in Vietnam, manufactured by Tetra Pak (Sweden). Ms. Nguyen Hang Nga, Deputy Director of the Center, said: We continue to cooperate with cooperatives, build a stable production chain and commit to keeping stable agricultural product purchase prices. It is expected that in 2025, Doveco Son La will purchase about 80,000 tons of agricultural products, including 33,000 tons of mango, 18,000 tons of sweet corn, 2,000 tons of longan and other agricultural products.
Being proactive and carefully prepared from planting, caring, to supporting activities to connect and promote agricultural products is a condition for Son La province to successfully implement the plan to consume and export agricultural products in 2023.
