From 7am hundreds of people lined up early to take the Nhon - Hanoi train station.
"The construction of the urban railway aims to gradually implement the Master Plan for Hanoi Capital Construction and the Hanoi Capital Transport Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister. The project also contributes to the synchronous development of the urban infrastructure system towards modernization to improve public passenger transport capacity, meet the requirements of socio-economic development of the capital, solve traffic congestion, ensure safety for traffic participants, and improve environmental pollution caused by vehicles in the central area of Hanoi," said Mr. Son. Regarding static traffic connections and traffic organization, the Hanoi Department of Transport said that in the first phase, the Department has coordinated with the People's Committees of districts along the route (Nam Tu Liem, Bac Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Dong Da, Ba Dinh) to review, arrange points, parking lots, and organize traffic on the route and at the stations. In the next phase after operating the route based on the actual traffic situation, the Department of Transport said it will continue to coordinate with the People's Committees of the districts to make appropriate adjustments.
Expected to attract a large number of visitors on weekends
Sitting on the train, many passengers were excited because the train line was put into service after many years of delays.
Mr. Nguyen Van Loi (Hoai Duc, Hanoi) is a retired cadre who shared: "This morning I woke up at 5 am in a very excited mood to be able to take the train after many years of waiting. I remember the first days of construction when I often had to go to Hanoi to work and was looking forward to going to work instead of my personal vehicle. But it was not until now that I was able to travel. I hope that when the line is in operation, it can help many students not have to stay in a dormitory, and travel conveniently and quickly". With a very excited mood, Tran Mai Phuong (student of National Economics University) said: "I have been waiting for this train line since the first year, but now that I am a third-year student, I can travel instead of my personal vehicle. I will definitely use a monthly ticket to travel because I estimate that my travel time to school will be reduced by 30 minutes compared to before". Speaking to Giao thong Newspaper, Dr. Vu Hong Truong - General Director of Hanoi Railway Company Limited said that since 4am this morning, the company has mobilized hundreds of staff to welcome passengers. Up to now, the station staff are all proficient and can serve the needs of passengers well. "Today is still a working day, so the number of passengers traveling through the route from the morning until 8:20am is not overloaded. It is expected that the weekends will attract and welcome more passengers to experience," said Mr. Truong.
Each train attracts a large number of passengers to board.
Previously, on August 6, the Urban Railway Project Management Board (MRB) proposed to the Hanoi People's Committee to allow commercial operation of the elevated section in early August 2024 to meet the travel needs of the people. MRB also added that, with the special significance of being a symbol of the friendship between Vietnam and France, after commercial operation, the relevant agencies are also planning to organize the inauguration ceremony of the project in early September 2024, coinciding with the time when the French Ambassador returns to Vietnam. This time also coincides with the expected completion time of the Metis artwork - a meaningful gift from the French government to Hanoi, displayed at station S08.
