A deprived childhood full of determination
Nguyen Si Tuan - stage name Tuan Cry was born in 1992 in Yen Phong, Bac Ninh. Losing his father before he was born, Tuan grew up with his grandparents because his mother had to work far away to earn money to raise him. His mother did not remarry to focus on taking care of her son. Lacking affection in his childhood but full of determination, young Tuan had to be independent from a young age such as herding cows, catching crabs and snails from a young age...

His passion for music was sparked when Tuan was 8-9 years old. At that time, he often sang karaoke at weddings. After graduating from high school, without any guidance, Tuan searched for information on the internet and registered for the entrance exam to the Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema but failed.
Tuan then studied Electronics at Hanoi University of Industry, but in reality it was just an excuse to go to the capital to pursue his dream. "I didn't study very hard, I mainly went to hip hop dance, sang in tea rooms, and practiced for the school's art troupe," Tuan said.
Later, Tuan Cry realized that he could not make a living from singing so he returned to his hometown to do manual labor such as: porter, truck driver...
Grandfather's Threat and 10 Failures
In 2018, a fortuitous event changed Tuan’s life. After a hard day’s work, he livestreamed on Facebook, singing the song “ Nguoi la oi” with his characteristic Northern accent. Unexpectedly, the clip was widely shared on social networks.
Seeing an opportunity, Tuan sold his truck, built a house for his mother and went to Hanoi to pursue his music career. This decision was met with opposition from his grandfather who disowned him. Unable to talk directly, Tuan wrote a letter: "I want to pursue my passion, I hope you will create conditions for me to explore the outside world. I don't want to live a life that is repetitive."
Tuan Cry's journey to pursue music was not smooth, he had to return home many times after failures.
The Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 forced Tuan to return to his hometown. He said: "During that period, I returned to research more about Kinh Bac culture and Bac Ninh quan ho. I went singing with my mother, watching her sitting on a boat with her older brothers and sisters, holding a conical hat and singing, I found these beautiful features very interesting."
Tuan realized that after many years of searching outside, it turned out that the resources, the "treasure" were right next to where he was born.
"Up without arrogance, down without fear"
Tuan Cry gradually affirmed his name through compositions combining contemporary folk music, with hits such as Moi Trau, Ken Ca Chon Canh and especially Bac Bling - a product that reached 100 million views, helping his name stand at the top position on social networking platforms for many days.
"North Bling Project "Dare to introduce new local materials, with the beauty of Bac Ninh's Quan Ho homeland, which is loved and responded to by everyone. The beauty of Bac Ninh's homeland culture speaks of national character. Young people, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters in other provinces are also very proud. International friends have good reviews and comments about this project," he said.
Success brought Tuan many changes in life, from a busy schedule to public recognition. "After Bac Bling, I changed a lot, the amount of work was quite a lot, very urgent. The most obvious impact was that I lost 3kg."

Successful at the age of 33, Tuan shared: "I am calmer with everything. I am not arrogant or conceited when going up, and I am not afraid when going down. Even when falling, I am used to it, I get up quickly."
Tuan Cry decided to keep his stage name despite many people advising him to change it. "The name Tuan Cry appeared in 2018, when he was making parody music . At that time, I simply wanted people to laugh until they cried. Now the tears have been upgraded from entertaining laughter to tears of national pride, pride in the value he created," he said.
