CARE supports Ca Mau in communicating to raise awareness of gender equality

From August 6-7, in Ca Mau, CARE International in Vietnam coordinated with the Ca Mau Provincial Women's Union to provide training on monitoring and evaluation of Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children".

This is an activity within the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, Phase I, 2021-2025, according to the Handbook of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union.

The training session was attended by 82 delegates who are Chairmen, Vice Chairmen of the Women's Union, members of the Standing Committee of the Women's Union of districts, cities, 29 communes and towns, and Heads of the Women's Union representing 65 hamlets and villages in the project area.

Here, expert Dang Dinh Ngoc, policy and state governance advisor, CARE International in Vietnam, gave an overview of Project 8, monitoring and evaluation work in project implementation; familiarized himself with monitoring tools, practiced learning about monitoring topics and how to plan monitoring; and developed a monitoring plan at the grassroots level.

The project “Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children” (Project 8) is one of 10 projects under the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas approved by the Prime Minister.

The project is implemented in 51 provinces and cities across the country to raise awareness, change prejudices, care for material and spiritual life, protect and care for women and children, achieve gender equality goals and focus on effectively solving some urgent problems of women and children in particularly difficult areas.

According to Ms. Tieu Viet Tien, Vice President of the Ca Mau Provincial Women's Union, the training course helps union officials at all levels improve their knowledge, capacity, and monitoring and evaluation skills; at the same time, improve methods of organizing communication campaign activities, models of trusted addresses, and leadership clubs on gender equality in the community.

Founded in 1945, CARE is a leading humanitarian non-governmental organization fighting global poverty and providing emergency relief in 100 countries and territories worldwide. CARE has a special focus on supporting poor women and girls.

CARE has been working in Vietnam since 1989 with over 300 projects. CARE’s long-term goal in Vietnam is that poor and disadvantaged urban and rural people of all genders, especially women, benefit equally from development.

Ambassador Mai Phan Dung delivered a joint statement on behalf of the inter-regional group calling for accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

In an interview with the press, Ms. Caroline Nyamayamombe, Chief Representative of UN Women Vietnam, said that Vietnam has made great strides in recent years to address gender inequality and promote women's rights in many different areas, including law, politics, education and employment.
