On August 11, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province has just issued a decision approving the investment project to upgrade fishing infrastructure in Ca Mau province.

The project aims to improve and modernize the fisheries sector, meet the needs of socio-economic development, ensure food hygiene and safety, reduce post-harvest losses, and ensure safety for fishing vessels and fishermen.

In addition, improving the efficiency of fisheries exploitation, meeting the requirements in fisheries management, especially the inspection of fishing vessels, monitoring the output of loading and unloading through ports, contributing to the strong and sustainable development of fisheries exploitation.

Ca Mau province aims to complete the construction of 13 fishing ports, including one type I fishing port, six type II fishing ports and six type III fishing ports.

Total seafood output through ports reaches 193,000 tons/year. Investment in ports must ensure effective implementation of fisheries management, meet the requirements of tracing the origin of exploited seafood, and prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities.

In addition, 13 storm shelters have been invested in and completed, including 2 regional and 11 provincial areas, ensuring a capacity of up to 7,700 fishing boats to safely anchor and avoid storms.

At estuaries, the waters where boats are moored will be dredged and cleared, with measures to prevent and limit natural sedimentation, ensuring safety for fishing boats entering and exiting, docking and loading and unloading goods.

Investment in fishing infrastructure including facilities for building, converting, and repairing fishing vessels; facilities for purchasing output products from fishing; facilities providing inputs for fishing will be inspected, fully meeting business conditions according to regulations, in accordance with industry planning, promoting efficiency to serve fishing logistics needs well.

The total cost of implementing the project is over VND5,239 billion. Of which, the central budget invests over VND1,541 billion, the local budget over VND657 billion. Non-state budget capital, mobilized capital sources, socialized capital, and other legal capital account for over VND3,040 billion.
