On the evening of August 13, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) informed about the training and granting of a degree to Mr. Thich Chan Quang (real name Vuong Tan Viet, born in 1959).
Accordingly, as soon as public opinion was stirred up about Mr. Thich Chan Quang's high school diplomas and degrees, the Ministry of Education and Training requested relevant educational units and institutions to report. The Ministry of Education and Training also simultaneously reviewed, inspected, verified and coordinated the verification to clarify information and evidence in the spirit and principles of thoroughness, caution, and compliance with legal regulations.
Regarding the suspicion that Mr. Thich Chan Quang did not graduate from a high school, the Ministry of Education and Training initially determined that the suspicion about the value of this degree is well-founded. However, the Ministry of Education and Training said that it still needs to continue to coordinate with the authorities and security agencies to investigate and clarify other important information.

The Ministry will continue to verify whether this is the diploma of Mr. Thich Chan Quang or not. If the information on the above diploma does not match the information on the diploma owned by Mr. Thich Chan Quang, it is necessary to continue to clarify through other channels.
Regarding Mr. Thich Chan Quang's doctoral studies at Hanoi Law University, the Ministry of Education and Training has inspected and verified the training process. The training process is basically not contrary to legal regulations. Although the records have some shortcomings, they have been corrected during the training process.
Regarding the quality of Mr. Thich Chan Quang's doctoral thesis, the Ministry of Education and Training has sent independent reviewers to assess the quality of the thesis. Based on the assessment results, the Ministry of Education and Training will establish a Thesis Assessment Council in accordance with regulations. This process will take more time to organize and implement.
At the same time, continue to proactively coordinate with relevant authorities to have clear and certain information before the competent authority makes an official announcement.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City confirmed that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet, born in 1959, was not on the list of candidates and the list of names and scores in the 1989 high school supplementary graduation exam of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's name was also not on the list of people awarded high school diplomas for the supplementary cultural course on June 6, 1989 by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
Not only high school diploma, recently, Mr. Thich Chan Quang has caused a stir in public opinion when it comes to issues related to diplomas. Before graduating with a doctorate, Mr. Thich Chan Quang had a bachelor's degree in English (in 2001) at the University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University); graduated with a bachelor's degree in Law in 2019 at Hanoi Law University (second degree, part-time program).
