The press release said that the 12th meeting of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee was held in Tokyo, Japan, on August 7, 2024. The two sides welcomed the re-launch of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee after a 5-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the first meeting held after the two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the world, demonstrating the determination of the Government Leaders, ministries and sectors of the two countries in promoting the Vietnam - Japan friendship and cooperation to develop strongly, substantially and comprehensively in both quantity and quality, commensurate with the stature of the new relationship framework.
The two sides expressed their delight at the remarkable progress in bilateral relations since the 11th meeting of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee held in May 2019, despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and highlighted a number of outstanding achievements in bilateral cooperation. The two sides agreed to make efforts to maintain exchanges and contacts at high and all levels, striving to have at least one high-ranking delegation from each side visit each other each year. The two sides affirmed the importance of strengthening economic ties and cooperation in the field of economic security through promoting cooperation in the economic field. The Japanese side reaffirmed its continued support for Vietnam in building an independent, self-reliant economy, integrating deeply into the international community, and industrializing and modernizing, aiming to become a high-income country by 2045. The Japanese side highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in improving the investment environment, including ensuring a stable power supply and facilitating administrative procedures. The two sides affirmed the necessity of improving Vietnam's investment environment to promote investment and trade by Japanese enterprises. The two sides agreed to closely coordinate to specifically, effectively and substantially implement the Vietnam - Japan Joint Initiative in the New Era, Phase 1, bringing benefits to both sides, for the further development of the two economies, and promoting exchanges on cooperation in the fields of digital transformation, innovation, semiconductor industry development, artificial intelligence (AI) ... seeking cooperation opportunities in human resource training, investment, trade, science and technology transfer ... The Japanese side agreed to actively consider the possibility of cooperation and support for Vietnam in the fields of telecommunications (including 5G-6G networks), information technology, information safety and security, digital society ... The two sides welcomed the progress in projects in the List of key economic cooperation projects (fact-sheet) agreed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in December 2023. The two Ministers agreed to hold the next meeting (13th meeting) of the Vietnam - Japan Cooperation Committee in 2025 in Vietnam. The specific time of the meeting will be arranged through diplomatic channels.
