TPO - "For Literature, avoid using texts and excerpts that have been learned in textbooks as assessment materials in periodic tests to overcome the situation where students only memorize lessons or copy content from available documents," that is the requirement of the Ministry of Education and Training in the instructions for secondary and high school tasks for the next school year.

The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued guidelines for implementing secondary education tasks for the 2024-2025 school year. Next school year, all levels and grades will implement the 2018 General Education Program.

In particular, for the assessment of middle and high school students, the Ministry of Education and Training requires that the test not exceed the requirements of the program.

Regarding the Literature subject under the new general education program, in the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry instructs schools to avoid using texts and excerpts learned in textbooks as test materials, assessing reading comprehension and writing skills in periodic tests to overcome the situation where students only memorize lessons or copy sample texts.

In the new school year guidelines, the Ministry also requires educational institutions to strengthen the construction of question banks and test matrices according to the requirements of the subject program, preparing 9th grade students to get acquainted with the orientation of the entrance exam to grade 10. 12th grade students are introduced to the new orientation of the high school graduation exam.

Next school year, all levels and grades will implement the 2018 General Education Program.

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training requires educational institutions to implement well the methods and forms of teaching and learning organization, testing and evaluation to develop students' qualities and abilities. Focus on developing schools and classes, enhancing facilities and teaching equipment to ensure the requirements of implementing the new general education program.

Schools should pay attention to building and distributing integrated subject programs: Natural Sciences, History - Geography as well as Career Guidance Experience Activities suitable to the actual situation to effectively promote the capacity of the teaching staff.

At high school level, schools should pay attention to elective subjects and elective topics and should increase the arrangement of separate classes according to elective subjects and topics, and flexibly arrange the number of students in each class to best meet students' wishes.

Choose teaching methods appropriate to the lesson content to organize students' learning activities to ensure quality, spend more time for students to exploit and use textbooks. Practice and experiment to receive and apply knowledge through performing assigned tasks and completing specific learning products according to student requirements. The Ministry also requires schools to diversify teaching and learning methods including inside and outside the classroom, inside and outside the school to promote students' interest in learning.

Ensuring textbooks for the new school year

In the new school year, the Ministry of Education and Training also requires localities to ensure the highest promotion of the professional autonomy of teachers and educational institutions in organizing the selection of textbooks according to regulations. Coordinate with publishers to train teachers in the use of textbooks and provide books to students fully and promptly before the start of the school year.

Complete the compilation, appraisal, and provision of local educational materials for grades 9 and 12 for timely implementation in the 2024-2025 school year.

Localities also need to ensure minimum facilities and teaching equipment as prescribed to effectively carry out the tasks of the school year. Invest in and make the most of school facilities to be able to organize more than 6 teaching sessions/week.
