In Binh Dinh, organic agricultural production models are currently flourishing, from rice to fruit trees and vegetables, and farmers are very excited to participate.
According to Mr. Tran Van Phuc, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Dinh, there are currently 185 agricultural cooperatives operating in the province, of which 7 cooperatives have plans to invest in organic agricultural production or are converting to organic production.
Of which, there are 3 agricultural cooperatives in Hoai An district that have converted to organic farming on rice, including: An Tin Agricultural Cooperative, An Tuong I Agricultural Cooperative and An Tuong II Agricultural Cooperative. The organic rice products of all 3 cooperatives mentioned above have been evaluated and classified as 3-star OCOP.

Agribio Organic Agriculture Cooperative in Phu My District is producing mushrooms, supplying mushroom spawn according to organic standards, with an average output of 25,000 bags of mushroom spawn/month and 1.5 tons of finished mushrooms/month. The Cooperative's products of king oyster mushrooms, lingzhi mushrooms, and gray oyster mushrooms have been evaluated and classified as 4-star OCOP.
Loc Tin Organic Agricultural Cooperative in Tuy Phuoc District is also organizing organic production with pennywort and fish mint products on an area of 2 hectares. Loc Tin fish mint powder products and Loc Tin cordyceps fish mint powder supplements of this unit are evaluated and classified as 3-star OCOP.
The remaining units are Nhon Hau Organic Agricultural Cooperative in An Nhon town, which is organizing the production of vegetables, tubers, and fruits in an organic direction, using only biological products with an area of 1.4 hectares; Hoai An Youth Agricultural Cooperative is implementing a project to link production with the consumption of green-skinned grapefruit and organic vegetable products in Hoai An district with an area of hundreds of hectares.
According to Mr. Phuc, Hoai An is the leading district in Binh Dinh province in organic rice production with an area of 17 hectares/crop with 7 participating agricultural cooperatives. Since 2019, An Tin Agricultural Cooperative has pioneered a pilot program for organic rice production, using only composted manure and spraying biological products to prevent pests and diseases.

Mr. Bui Long Xuan, Director of An Tin Agricultural Cooperative, shared: “Each year, the cooperative produces 5.5 hectares of organic rice, mainly Dai Thom 8 rice variety. Currently, An Tin organic rice is sold at the cooperative’s stores in and outside Hoai An district. At the same time, Hoai An Youth Agricultural Cooperative also cooperates to purchase An Tin organic rice to supply the market.
Currently, An Tin Agricultural Cooperative supplies the market with nearly 13 tons of organic rice per year at a price of VND28,000/kg. Recently, An Tin organic rice has been increasingly chosen by consumers. In the coming time, the Cooperative will continue to expand the area of organic rice production.
Binh Dinh’s agricultural sector is encouraging and planning organic fruit growing areas. Currently, the province has nearly 122 hectares of organic certified fruit trees, mainly grapefruit, coconut and vegetables.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuong in Team 5, Kim Son Village, An Nghia Commune (Hoai An District) is growing 1.5 hectares of green-skinned grapefruit interspersed with pear guava according to organic farming processes. After nearly 4 years, Mr. Thuong's pear guava is now ready for harvest.

“Guava can be harvested all year round. Growing it using organic methods requires higher care techniques than conventional farming methods, but in return, the products sell for higher prices. My entire area of green-skinned grapefruit and guava is irrigated using drip irrigation technology and organic fertilizers. Currently, Hoai An Youth Agricultural Cooperative directly purchases my guava and grapefruit to sell to the market, so I don’t have to worry about product output,” said Mr. Thuong.
The functional sector of Vinh Thanh district is also promoting propaganda and mobilizing farmers to produce organic agriculture, in line with the policy of restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing value, sustainable development, and environmental friendliness, contributing to enhancing the reputation and value of agricultural products.
Accordingly, the Farmers' Association of Vinh Thanh district organized many training and communication sessions to help farmers see the harmful effects of pesticide residues and pesticide waste; organized many activities to collect pesticide packaging, organized many competitions to participate in environmental protection... At the same time, increased mobilization of farmers not to sell cow manure to traders but to compost it with biological products to fertilize crops, bringing high productivity and quality products.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Thanh in K2 village, Vinh Son commune (Vinh Thanh district) shared: “My family produces vegetables in an organic way, gradually reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides. Thanks to that, I save on input costs and better protect my health and the environment. Currently, many people order the vegetables I grow every day.”
“With synchronous solutions in developing the production of advantageous products according to the value chain, linking production with the market, focusing on safe agricultural production, organic agriculture, high-tech agriculture..., Binh Dinh's agricultural sector is achieving positive results, contributing to accelerating the local economic growth rate,” said Mr. Tran Van Phuc, Director of Binh Dinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
