On August 6, CNN and many other US news agencies reported that US Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Mr. Walz, 60, a former member of the National Guard and a former teacher, has won support from white, rural voters and has supported policies such as free school meals and expanded paid leave for workers.

Choosing a vice presidential candidate is one of Ms. Harris's important decisions to be able to challenge the Republican duo Donald Trump - JD Vance in the race next November.

Ms. Harris will make her first public appearance with the vice presidential candidate on the evening of August 6 at Temple University in Philadelphia to kick off a campaign tour in battleground states.
