TPO - The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB) has just announced that starting from July 30, the project will use 2 robots to dig the first meters of the 4.5 km underground section. Station S9 (Kim Ma) will be the first starting point for the robots and will dig the underground tunnel to Hanoi station.
MRB said that FECON contractor will be in charge of the underground tunnel drilling part of the project and control two tunnel boring robots named TBM No. 1 and TBM No. 2 to dig two parallel tunnels at the same time. The drilling machines will start digging the tunnel at the S9 underground station in Kim Ma, the depth of the tunnel drilled compared to the ground is minus 17.8m.

Regarding work productivity, the contractor representative said that each day the TBM robot will drill about 10m, installing the tunnel lining as it drills. The amount of waste during the tunnel digging process will be collected by the TBM robot and automatically taken outside.
According to the contractor's representative, the tunnel construction using TBM robots on the Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station urban railway line is the world's leading advanced technology.
The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway project has a total investment of more than 30,000 billion VND, the project is 12.5 km long, of which the elevated section (Nhon - Cau Giay) is 8.5 km long and the underground section (Cau Giay - Hanoi Railway Station) is more than 4 km long. The project started in 2010, up to now, the elevated section of the project is planned to be put into commercial operation in July 2024, the underground section is planned to be completed in 2027.
