Protecting the agricultural and rural environment is an important task of the agricultural sector for socio-economic development, improving living standards and protecting the ecological environment. To promote the application of scientific and technological advances in agricultural production and limit the source of plastic waste in crop production, from 2022, the provincial agricultural sector will organize 50 integrated pest management courses for 1,500 people; 20 integrated plant health management courses on major crops for 600 people; the area applying the improved rice cultivation system (SRI) reaches more than 80% of the cultivated area,... contributing to reducing waste sources in crop production.

Many biological plant protection products through research are widely applied such as NPV, V-Bt, Tricodecma... to control pests and diseases in crop production with an applied area of ​​more than 1,000 hectares/year.

The locality also applied drones and GPS to spray pesticides to prevent crop pests on over 1,000 hectares of rice and 50 hectares of cassava in the districts of Kim Boi, Tan Lac, and Lac Son; increased the use of agricultural by-products in soil cover, limited the use of plastic film; integrated the implementation of management tasks of collection and treatment of used pesticide packaging and plastic waste in crop production into industry development strategies and plans; socio-economic development strategies and plans from the province to the district and commune levels...

According to statistics, the province currently maintains 1,680 pesticide packaging tanks. Most of the tanks are located in concentrated crop areas, near intra-field traffic routes and are convenient for people to collect after using pesticides. The number of pesticide packaging collected is about 9,350 kg, estimated at about 26% of the total amount of pesticide packaging used.

The remainder is mostly collected by producers right in the fields, on fruit and vegetable growing areas, and collected with household waste. The amount of plastic waste in crop production collected and classified at the source is about 945 tons (mainly fertilizer packaging, film, bags, etc.), accounting for nearly 50% of plastic waste. The amount of plastic waste collected for recycling and reuse accounts for about 55%; the rest is mainly transported and treated with household waste.

Up to now, Hoa Binh province has four projects in the field of waste treatment and collection that have been granted investment policy decisions by the Provincial People's Committee: Thinh Minh solid waste treatment area, Hoa Binh city (50 hectares); Cao Son solid waste treatment area, Luong Son district (30 hectares); Dong Tam solid waste and hazardous waste treatment area, Lac Thuy district (50 hectares); Da Phuc solid waste treatment area, Yen Thuy district (50 hectares).

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hoa Binh province Nguyen Huy Nhuan said: The implementation of the above project has helped the awareness of producers in environmental protection have many positive changes. In the coming time, the provincial agricultural sector will continue to urge the drastic implementation of the project, at the same time strengthen training, information, and propaganda for organizations and individuals in the use of pesticides and collection of used pesticide packaging and plastic waste; step up inspection, examination, and supervision of the trading, use of pesticides and collection of pesticide packaging in accordance with regulations. Along with that, the locality also socializes and enhances the role and responsibility of enterprises and organizations registering and distributing pesticides in the collection and treatment of used pesticide packaging and plastic waste in crop production.
