At the 2024 Olympics, 5/11 Southeast Asian countries won medals, namely the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Of which, the Philippines and Indonesia had 2 gold medals, while Thailand also managed to "pocket" 1 gold medal. This is the most successful Olympics in the history of some Southeast Asian countries. Indonesian sports ended the 2024 Olympics with 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal - the best achievement in the past 32 years. The last time Indonesian sports achieved more impressive results was at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. At that time, Indonesia won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Similarly, the Philippines had the most successful Olympics in history with 2 gold medals and 2 bronze medals. Before the 2024 Olympics, the Philippines had only 1 gold medal at the Olympics from weightlifting (Olympic 2020). But Philippine sports exploded in Paris when they won 2 gold medals thanks to Carlos Yulo in gymnastics. In addition, there were 2 bronze medals from boxing. In contrast to the Philippines and Indonesia, Thailand did not have a breakthrough Olympics. They only had 1 gold medal - a result much lower than expected. The remaining two teams, Singapore and Malaysia, although not winning gold medals, also avoided a blank Olympics with bronze medals. This is also what many sports teams want but cannot achieve.

The remaining six Southeast Asian sports delegations without medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics include: Vietnam, Brunei, Timor Leste, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. This is the second consecutive Olympics in which Vietnamese sports have failed to win any medals.
Southeast Asia remains the "lowland" of world sports
At the 2024 Olympics, Southeast Asian sports delegations have a limited number of athletes participating. The most powerful is Thailand with 51 athletes, followed by Indonesia (29 athletes), Malaysia (26 athletes), Singapore (23 athletes), Philippines (22 athletes), Vietnam (16 athletes), Timor Leste, Laos (both 4 athletes), Cambodia, Brunei (both 3 athletes), Myanmar (2 athletes). At the most recent Olympics in Tokyo (Japan), the Philippine sports delegation led Southeast Asia with 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal, ranking 50th. Next is Indonesia with 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals, ranking 55th. Thailand ranked 59th with 1 gold medal, 1 bronze medal and finally Malaysia ranked 74th with 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal. The remaining Southeast Asian sports delegations, including Vietnam, did not win any medals.
