Doctor on duty 115,000 VND/shift and difficult to solve problems

Báo Tuổi TrẻBáo Tuổi Trẻ19/11/2024

But if not proposed, just left as is, the current allowance level (applied since 2011) after many times of increasing the basic salary and annual inflation, has become unbelievable.

Looking at the table, the special surgery allowance for the main surgeon and the main anesthetist/anesthetist is only 280,000 VND, for type 1 surgery this allowance is reduced to 125,000 VND and for type 3 surgery the allowance is only 50,000 VND.

With the on-call allowance, the 24/7 on-call regime at grade 1 and special hospitals has an allowance of 115,000 VND, at grade 2 hospitals this level is reduced to 90,000 VND. The remaining hospitals have an allowance of 60,000 VND/night on-call, at commune health stations it is reduced to 25,000 VND.

A doctor at a central hospital in Hanoi shared that all the female doctors in his department have gone to work at private hospitals, leaving only male doctors because this hospital is on duty 4/1, meaning every 4 days there is 1 night shift, and the night shift here is emergency duty, busy all night, tired until the next day while the allowance is only 115,000 VND.

Many people find this allowance unreasonable, but it has remained the same for 13 years. Now that the basic salary has just increased, doctors and nurses have received a little raise, and the good news is that the on-duty allowance is about to increase.

However, for hospitals that have been self-sufficient in regular spending, finding the money to pay for this increase is a big problem. Since July 1, the basic salary has increased by 30% but hospital fees remain the same. A hospital with 4,000 doctors and nurses said they had to spend an additional 12 billion VND in July alone for salary increases. Another 12 billion VND was added in August, but revenue has not increased.

How is the quality of medical services in Vietnam? Everyone sees that hospitals are too crowded, there are few nurses, experienced doctors but many beds are shared, and long queues are required for examination.

To properly resolve this problem, we must reform income and support public hospitals in initial investment... Therefore, the proposal to increase allowances for doctors has received attention, but when will it be increased and where will the money come from to increase it?
