On August 9, doctors from the Neurosurgery Department of Can Tho Central General Hospital successfully performed surgery on a young woman who had been stabbed in the skull by a pair of scissors.
Patient NTCT (15 years old, living in Soc Trang) was transferred to Can Tho Central General Hospital at noon of the same day with a headache, having been stabbed through the skull by a scissor tip.

According to family members, at 8:00 a.m. on August 9, while playing, T.'s 10-year-old brother suddenly grabbed a pair of scissors nearby and threw them to chase away a stray cat. Unfortunately, the tip of the scissors hit T.'s head.
Through the results of the CT scan, doctors at Can Tho Central General Hospital found a radiopaque foreign body penetrating the right parietal skull, with a metallic image; the wound in T.'s right parietal area was punctured by a 0.5cm needle.
The patient underwent emergency surgery. The surgery for the young woman was successful after 90 minutes.

The patient is now gradually recovering (Photo: Provided by the hospital).
The patient is currently conscious, has stable vital signs, normal neurological functions, and a dry surgical wound. T. is being monitored and treated at the Department of Neurosurgery, Can Tho Central General Hospital.
Doctor CKII Chuong Chan Phuoc - Head of Neurosurgery Department - shared: "Fortunately, in this case, the needle was not inserted too deeply, and did not damage the brain parenchyma, so neurological function recovered almost completely, leaving no sequelae. It is expected that the patient can be discharged in the next few days."

Scissors were removed from the patient's head (Photo: Provided by the hospital).
Doctor Phuoc recommends that this is a lesson for families and schools in managing children's use of sharp objects, including manual scissors.
In case a child is stabbed by a sharp object, do not attempt to remove the penetrating object from the wound at home or in the emergency room. Remove the foreign object only in the operating room, after the patient has been evaluated by diagnostic imaging.
