TP - On August 8, the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony to award admission certificates to successful candidates of the Chinese Government Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Chinese Ambassador Hung Ba said that this school year, 76 Vietnamese students were awarded scholarships, including 48 bachelor's students, 6 master's students and 22 postgraduate students. Vietnamese students will study various majors such as science and technology, engineering, finance, pedagogy, cinema, etc. in 17 provinces and cities across China. "This time, 6 students won scholarships to study at Peking University and 4 at Tsinghua University. This is a record number of Vietnamese students receiving scholarships to the two most prestigious universities in China in the past 5 years," said Ambassador Hung Ba. According to the latest QS World University Rankings, Peking University ranked 14th in the world, while Tsinghua University ranked 20th.
Ambassador Hung Ba quoted Vietnamese leaders as saying that Vietnam is focusing on implementing three strategic breakthroughs, including perfecting institutions, building infrastructure, and developing human resources. According to Ambassador Hung Ba, China and Vietnam can support and help each other in implementing strategic breakthroughs. “In terms of infrastructure, in the near future, it is expected that three railway lines in northern Vietnam will connect with Chinese railways. In terms of institutions, the two sides can increase the exchange of experiences in Party building, national governance, etc. In terms of human resources, cooperation in education and training is an important field; after studying in China, Vietnamese students and trainees return home to contribute to building socialism,” the Ambassador said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation - Ministry of Education and Training, also commented that Vietnam-China education and training cooperation has a long history and is a bright spot in bilateral relations; China has helped train many Vietnamese students in many fields that China has strengths in and Vietnam has needs in such as medicine, engineering, arts, sports, etc. "According to data from the Chinese Ministry of Education, as of the 2023-2024 school year, there are about 23,000 Vietnamese students studying in China and the quality of Chinese Government scholarship candidates has increased over the years," Ms. Thanh Minh said.
At the Admission Ceremony, Truong Bao Anh, a student from the Foreign Language High School - Hanoi National University, who received a scholarship to study at Peking University, said in Chinese: “Studying abroad is a way to seek a broader academic and cultural vision, an opportunity to experience the beauty of diverse cultural exchanges and understand the truth that “seeing is believing”.
According to the Vietnam-China Joint Statement on further promoting and deepening the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership (2022), the two sides agreed to effectively implement the Vietnam-China Education Cooperation Agreement; encourage sending international students to study in each country. The Chinese side announced that in the next 5 years, it will provide Vietnam with no less than 1,000 Chinese Government scholarships, and no less than 1,000 scholarships for Chinese language teachers...
