Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said that this year, the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training recorded more than 733,000 candidates registering for admission (equivalent to 68.5% of the number of candidates taking the 2024 high school graduation exam). This is a high rate compared to previous years - about 64%. This shows that the demand for studying and graduating from university is high.

"The labor market and the increasing demand for high-quality human resources are set according to the development trend of the country. This shows that people's trust in the quality of university education has changed in recent years," Mr. Son assessed.

Regarding the industry structure, compared to last year, Mr. Son said that the choices of students have changed due to careful consultation on characteristics, career opportunities and majors. Information on the labor market is also close, so the trend of choosing majors and study programs reflects the aspirations and psychology of students, showing positive results.

According to calculations in 24 fields, 400 training majors, the number of candidates registering for the majors: engineering technology, computer, information technology has the highest rate. Next is the pedagogical major; then the humanities and health majors.

Compared to 2023, the 3 fields with the highest increase in registration rates: educational sciences and teacher training increased by 85% (equivalent to an increase of about 200,000 wishes), and the benchmark score for this field is expected to increase. At the same time, the above data shows the interest of students in the pedagogical industry thanks to the policy of supporting living expenses and tuition fees.

Next is the natural sciences sector, although it accounts for a small proportion, the number of applications increased by 61%; the national security and defense sector also increased by 46.5%, although the number is not large. The engineering and technology sector increased by 100,000 applications.

In particular, high-tech industries such as semiconductors have seen a significant increase in numbers. The total number of applications for semiconductor design increased by 30%, and the first application increased by 40%. This shows that candidates are very "sensitive" and grasp the development trends of high-tech industries.

Some fields such as: business management decreased by 3% (equivalent to a decrease of 24,000 wishes); computers and information technology decreased by nearly 5% (equivalent to 15,000 wishes); transportation services decreased by 20% (equivalent to 77,000 wishes).

"The Ministry will continue to analyze the industries to have more accurate data to provide to the press and society about the registration needs of university candidates," said the Deputy Minister of Education and Training.
