Coming from families with military traditions, the new female recruits hope to continue the brave spirit of the previous generation and devote their youth to the Fatherland.

Ignited by the program As if there had never been a separation

Graduating with a degree in literature from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) in July 2024, Do Phuong Trang (24 years old, living in District 5) made a surprising decision when she volunteered to join the army.

Previously, Trang was a member of the search team of the volunteer program to search for relatives "As if there had never been a separation" from July to December 2024.

This job helped her to contact many files to find relatives, especially those searching for martyrs and female soldiers. It was the sacrifice and bravery of those who went before that made her admire and urged her to contribute her part to the country in peacetime.

"My paternal and maternal grandparents are both veterans. My maternal grandparents have the First and Second Class Resistance Medals. My paternal grandmother served in the military medical sector. This gave me even more motivation to apply for military service," Trang shared.

Besides, Trang's lover has also completed his military service and around her there are many relatives who have served in the army. These factors have further fueled the young girl's determination.

As a party member , Trang clearly understands that the military environment will be a place to help her develop political ideology and train her will and courage.

She has prepared herself physically by jogging and walking every day to improve her endurance. Trang hopes to utilize her expertise in film and television scriptwriting and her journalism certificate to contribute to the development of the information and communication sector, spreading the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers .

Ms. Tran Thi Kim Phuong, Trang's mother, was initially surprised by her daughter's decision. "Trang has been protected by her parents since she was little and has never been away from home. This is the first time she has been away from home for such a long time. I was worried but also encouraged her to try to train and mature after two years in the army," Ms. Phuong shared.

Commander of the Military Command of Ward 4, District 5, Duong Viet Truong said that Trang is an active and enthusiastic person, always ready to participate in local activities such as the women's association and the militia.

"Last year, the locality had a young female volunteer to join the army, this year there is Trang. This is a source of motivation for us to continue to multiply the examples of female citizens volunteering to go to protect the Fatherland," Mr. Truong emphasized.

Female rookie with dream of continuing family tradition

Similar to Phuong Trang, born into a family with a military tradition, Nguyen Phuong Huyen (22 years old, living in District 12) always wanted to wear a soldier's uniform to continue her parents' tradition.

Graduated from the International Business major at the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) in 2024, as soon as she heard about the military recruitment, Huyen immediately wrote a volunteer application to join the army .

Huyen's parents are both soldiers so they fully support their daughter's decision and guide her through the necessary procedures.

"My parents told me a lot about life in the army, about discipline, hours and how to adapt. That helped me to be better mentally prepared before leaving," Huyen shared.

Not only does Huyen want to train herself in the military environment, she also hopes to be able to apply her expertise to support the unit in areas such as clerical or financial work. She also aims to become a party member during her military service.

Ms. Ho Thi Kim Nhung, Huyen's mother, is a military medical officer. When she learned that her daughter volunteered to join the army, she was very happy and proud.

"Huyen has always been very independent. When the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in Ho Chi Minh City, her parents had to stay at their unit for 7 months without returning home, Huyen managed to take care of herself and study for the university entrance exam alone. That made me believe that my daughter would be brave enough to adapt to the military environment," Ms. Nhung confided.

Huyen also prepared herself mentally, determined to comply with the unit's regulations and rules, maintain her health and train herself.

"I hope that after two years I will be more mature, more independent and be able to serve long-term in the army," the young girl shared.

'I hope the army will help me grow up'

This is the wish of Ta Dang Hong Sang (26 years old, living in Ward 25, Binh Thanh District) when he volunteered to join the military.

The young girl said that since childhood, she has had a special affection for the green of the military uniform. During the period when Ho Chi Minh City was fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, witnessing the army participating in caring for and supporting the people made Sang admire them even more.

Applying his pharmaceutical major trained at university, Sang also volunteered to participate in the fight against the epidemic locally, supporting health care for the ward's militia force.

"With the motto of 'little by little makes a lot', over the years, as a female militia of the ward, I have actively studied, trained myself, tried to accumulate knowledge and experience to improve myself. At the end of 2024, feeling confident and mature enough, I wrote an application to volunteer to join the army," Hong Sang shared.

The young girl's decision to join the military was also greatly supported by her family. At the end of 2024, Ta Dang Hong Sang was honored to join the Party. This was an honor not only for Sang but also for her entire family.

"I hope that when I join the army, the military environment will help me grow and become stronger. I will also continue to promote the pioneering and exemplary spirit of a young party member, bring my knowledge to support the unit and devote myself to long-term service in the army," Hong Sang expressed.

In 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Military Service Council issued 4,197 conscription orders. Of these, 4,003 citizens (4,000 men, 3 women) were officially conscripted, and 194 citizens were on reserve.

The number of party members who received military service orders was 110. The number of citizens who joined the army with intermediate, college, and university degrees was 1,902. The number of citizens who received military service orders with health class 1 and class 2 was 3,358.

In addition, the police of districts, towns and Thu Duc City have completed the selection documents according to the provisions of the Law on Military Service and circulars and guidance documents of the Ministry of Public Security, ensuring the delivery of 987 quotas.

In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City Military Service Council organized eye surgery for 211 citizens according to the policy of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to support the cost of treating refractive eye defects for citizens performing military service and public security service.

In 2025, the military handover ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City will be held at the District 7 Administrative Center Square on February 13.
