Than The Cong is known for his impressive achievements in international physics competitions. Most recently, he was one of two Vietnamese students who won a gold medal at the 2024 International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Iran.
The Cong was happy to have achieved his goal. The moment he stood on the podium to receive the gold medal, the male student cried with emotion.
"I have participated in many competitions both domestically and internationally, but IPhO 2024 gives me a very different feeling. Participating in the International Physics Olympiad 2024 is a great opportunity. I not only compete for the glory of my country but also learn many valuable things from international friends," said The Cong.
Since childhood, The Cong has loved numbers and calculations, inspired by the stories of scientists around the world. In 8th grade, The Cong clearly realized his special love for Physics. For the male student, this is not just a subject but a field, a world to explore. That same year, The Cong won second prize in the city-level excellent student competition.

In grade 10, The Cong's talent was discovered and nurtured by his teachers, and he soon became familiar with many large and small competitions at home and abroad. "Achievement is not what I focus on in each competition. I always keep in mind what I learn and how I mature after each competition," The Cong said.
At the 2023 national excellent student selection exam, The Cong won first prize, in the top 4 candidates with the highest scores nationwide in Physics.
Thanks to training through many competitions, the achievements of the male student from Bac Giang have been increasingly improved. Last year, Cong won a bronze medal at the Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad.
A year later, Cong excelled when he became the only Vietnamese candidate to win a gold medal at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad, and ranked 30th out of 200 candidates worldwide participating in the exam.

Than The Cong was welcomed at the airport by teachers, friends and family.
The Cong admitted that he is not too pressured by the award. The male student always studies in the most comfortable state, along with a scientific study plan with a clear roadmap. In addition to the time spent in class and studying with teachers, Cong reads documents on his own or studies through videos online.
"The achievements I have made are not only my own efforts but also the efforts of my teachers and parents. Without the guidance of my teachers and encouragement from my parents for a long time, I probably would not have achieved such high results," the male student born in 2007 shared.
Teacher Nguyen Van Doa, the teacher who directly taught him, commented: "The Cong's achievements not only reflect his talent but also demonstrate his enthusiasm in pursuing his passion."
Accompanying the male student in many competitions, Mr. Doa is proud to have a student who is intelligent, eager to learn and extremely hard-working. The achievements of The Cong and his friends are not only a joy for Mr. Doa but also the pride of the entire Bac Giang High School for the Gifted.
