According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, after the deadline for receiving additional 10th grade admission applications in Ho Chi Minh City, schools were able to recruit an additional 1,400 candidates, concentrated in suburban areas.

With a total of 2,203 additional enrollment targets, this enrollment rate is 63.54%. Thus, there are still more than 800 targets without qualified candidates.

This is because Ho Chi Minh City does not lower the admission score, only recruits additional candidates who fail all 3 wishes, so the recruitment source is more limited. Many top high schools such as Nguyen Thuong Hien, Phu Nhuan, Le Quy Don, Saigon Practice... although they still lack quotas, do not have qualified candidates.

The results of the 2024 supplementary recruitment received more attention than last year. In 2023, the whole city had 1,014 additional wishes. These wishes were concentrated in high schools in the suburbs and outskirts due to the large remaining quota and moderate standard scores.

According to the Department's assessment, the supplementary enrollment work has helped ensure the rights of students who failed their three wishes but have high scores to continue studying at public schools in the city.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Department of Education and Training has applied a regional priority mechanism for students studying at secondary schools in suburban districts such as Cu Chi, Nha Be, Can Gio, Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh and Thu Duc city.

Candidates applying to high schools in the same area as this middle school will be considered according to their first choice. The application of regional priority has brought some advantages to candidates and high schools as follows: ensuring the rights of candidates in remote areas with many difficulties to continue studying at public high schools.

At the same time, this helps high schools in the suburbs enroll enough students compared to the assigned quota, ensuring better operating conditions than previous school years.

Previously, on July 21, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced a list of 36 public high schools that are still lacking enrollment quotas and will conduct additional recruitment in the 2024-2025 school year.

The additional recruitment subjects are students who have taken the entrance exam for grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City. Public high schools that have not recruited enough students compared to the assigned quota will recruit additional students.

The condition for participating in additional admission is that students do not pass any admission wishes to public high schools and must have a total entrance exam score of 3 subjects: math, literature, foreign language plus priority points (if any) greater than or equal to the standard score of the 3rd wish of the public high school they want to register for admission.

For students who have studied at secondary schools in the areas of Can Gio, Nha Be, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi and Thu Duc city, if they register for schools in the same area as their secondary school, the total entrance exam score of the candidate will be considered according to the standard score of the first choice of the public high school they want to register for admission.

In which, Thu Duc city is divided into 3 regions (KV) in which KV1 includes schools in the old District 2, KV2 includes schools in the old District 9 and KV3 includes schools in the old Thu Duc district.

Each student is only allowed to register for additional enrollment at 1 public high school that has not yet met its assigned enrollment quota (according to the list attached in the appendix) and is not allowed to change schools after submitting the application for additional enrollment.
