Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung to urgently direct research and develop a plan to exploit My Dinh National Stadium, ensuring effective exploitation, avoiding waste and degradation; and report to the Prime Minister before April 15, 2025.

My Dinh National Stadium is located in Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi. This is one of the most modern sports facilities in Vietnam. The stadium was inaugurated and put into use in 2003, with a capacity of about 40,000 spectators, and has hosted two regional sports events, the 22nd and 31st SEA Games, as well as international matches of Vietnam's national teams.

My Dinh Stadium is not only a venue for sporting events, but also for large-scale concerts and cultural events. However, in recent years, My Dinh Stadium has been seriously degraded, especially the grass surface, function rooms, and equipment inside the stadium.

Most recently, My Dinh Stadium received a lot of criticism from the two head coaches of The Cong - Viettel Club and Hoang Anh Gia Lai, when playing the quarter-final match of the 2025 National Cup on March 30. Accordingly, both coaches Nguyen Duc Thang and Le Quang Trai frankly commented that the My Dinh Stadium grass did not meet the standards, affecting the quality of the match and making players susceptible to injury.

Afterwards, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) - the organizing board of Vietnam's professional football tournaments, sent a dispatch requesting The Cong - Viettel Club, the team that registered My Dinh Stadium as their home ground, to urgently take remedial measures.

The deterioration and squalor at My Dinh Stadium has been going on for decades, causing public concern and anger. However, up to now, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has not yet found a solution to overcome this situation.

Recently, at the ASEAN Cup 2024, My Dinh Stadium was rented out for music events, causing the grass to deteriorate and not meet tournament standards. VFF was then forced to bring the Vietnamese team to Viet Tri Stadium to participate in the tournament.

It is expected that in 2025, the ministry will allocate about 8 billion VND to renovate the My Dinh stadium's grass surface.
