On April 15 in Hanoi, the GSMA Digital Nation Summit, organized by the Global Mobile Association (GSMA) and the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDCA), officially opened. This is the first time the Conference has been held in Vietnam.
With the theme Connecting Vietnam – The role of the mobile industry in building a digital nation, the conference focuses on discussing solutions to build a modern and sustainable digital ecosystem in Vietnam. Here, GSMA and VDCA will discuss ways to support and promote Vietnam's digital transformation process.
The event contributes to responding to and promoting the comprehensive digital transformation process, building a digital economy in Vietnam, connecting the world's leading technology corporations and creating momentum for digital infrastructure development towards realizing Resolution 57.
The conference was accompanied by Viettel - the unit coordinating with GSMA to prepare content and discussion issues at the workshop sessions.
At the Conference, sharing about the topic of infrastructure development, Mr. Nguyen Dat - Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, said: "Regarding the 5G network, despite facing many challenges in terms of large investment costs, we still aim to deploy quickly to reach coverage like 4G today by 2026. All urban and rural areas will use the most modern 5G Massive MIMO (massive multiple antennas) equipment, ensuring high performance and readiness for new generation digital services. This goal is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access technology, regardless of region, narrowing the digital gap in Vietnam, towards the goal of the digital economy contributing 30% of Vietnam's GDP by 2030."

A representative of Viettel High Tech - the unit in charge of researching and manufacturing high-tech equipment of Viettel Group said that Viettel has now completely mastered 5G core network technology, affirming its role as both a telecommunications operator and a technology researcher and developer.
Not only stopping at deploying a self-sufficient 5G core network, at the discussion session, Viettel also announced positive results in researching and developing Open RAN technology - a strategic direction to expand the autonomy of telecommunications infrastructure, reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, and promote flexibility and openness in network architecture. With mastery of both hardware and software, Viettel is among the few network operators in the world capable of comprehensively deploying a self-sufficient 5G ecosystem.
From this solid foundation, Viettel will move towards 5G Advanced and 6G in the next 5 years, continuing to affirm its pioneering position in the field of telecommunications and information technology in Vietnam and the region.
On the afternoon of April 15, representatives of Viettel Cyber Security and Viettel IDC will discuss with GSMA, LG, Nokia, Ericsson about technology solutions and policy contributions in the fields of cyber security and artificial intelligence.
“Vietnam’s economy is growing very fast, probably one of the fastest growing economies in the region, and Viettel is one of the largest operators. Vietnam and Viettel’s voices deserve to be heard more loudly in the industry and this event is the first step in that process,” said Julian Gorman, GSMA’s Regional Director for Asia-Pacific.
Previously on April 9, the Global Mobile Association (GSMA) and the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDCA) announced a new cooperation project to promote the mobile and digital communications ecosystem in Vietnam, through which GSMA and VDCA will focus on exploiting the potential of the mobile ecosystem to support the implementation of the Government's Information and Communications Infrastructure Development Plan 2021 - 2030.
The plan includes goals to expand broadband infrastructure to cover 99% of the population with 5G by 2030, promote environmentally sustainable digital infrastructure development, build innovation zones to accelerate technology development, and make Vietnam a regional hub for cybersecurity and data.
Also through the MoU, GSMA and VDCA will share technical expertise, promote industry events and connect stakeholders through thought leadership platforms. GSMA will contribute through global initiatives on spectrum policy and cybersecurity frameworks; resources such as GSMA’s Mobile Threat Intelligence Framework (MoTIF), guidance on fraud prevention and quantum-safe technology, and international regulatory governance practices will be shared to support Vietnam’s strategic objectives.
The cooperation will also help VDCA and the Vietnamese digital media ecosystem connect with GSMA's global mobile innovation network./.
GSMA (Global Mobile Association) is a global organization representing more than 750 telecommunications operators and 400 technology companies in the mobile ecosystem. Representing mobile operators and organizations in the mobile ecosystem and related industries, GSMA benefits its members through three main pillars: Connectivity for the Good of the Community, Services and Industry Solutions, and Access. GSMA accomplishes these goals through organizing the world's largest annual technology events such as MWC and M360, promoting policy, and supporting technology.
