Contributing to the preservation and promotion of traditional crafts.
As usual, Nguyen Cong Bong (born in 1990, residing in Phu Thuong ward, Tay Ho district) arrived at his sticky rice stall around 5 a.m. We encountered a young man with nimble hands quickly wrapping each ball of sticky rice, his face full of energy, and his mouth constantly greeting customers.
According to Mr. Bong, more than 11 years ago, he decided to change direction and choose the family tradition of cooking and selling sticky rice daily, even though he already had a stable job in the IT industry.
According to Mr. Bong, the sticky rice cooking profession in Phu Thuong village has existed for an unknown period of time, but his family has been involved for four generations, and he is the fifth generation, having been in the profession for nearly 50 years. Although the work is very hard, the results are very rewarding because of the enthusiastic reception from customers.
Phu Thuong sticky rice has become famous far and wide, and since then, sticky rice cooks in the village have always been conscious of quality to maintain competitiveness and contribute to preserving the village's traditions.

"Currently, Phu Thuong sticky rice is available in many places, not just around Hanoi, so I am working hard to research and learn from other traditional products that have been exported. This will not only help increase the economic value but also help the traditional beauty of Phu Thuong sticky rice reach the world," Mr. Bong added.
Phu Thuong sticky rice comes in many different flavors, which is why Mrs. Tran Kim Hoa in Yen Hoa, Cau Giay, has such varied breakfast options. Mrs. Hoa says that the delicious, sweet taste of Phu Thuong sticky rice is distinctly different from sticky rice from other places. Especially noteworthy is that when bought in the morning and kept until the afternoon or evening, the sticky rice doesn't spoil.
"As society develops, I hope that Phu Thuong sticky rice village will continue to exist and find new ways of making sticky rice, so that this once-famous product will be preserved for thousands of years to come," added Mrs. Hoa.
Promoting intangible cultural values to reach a global level.
Speaking to Lao Dong newspaper, Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Linh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Thuong ward, Tay Ho district, said that there are currently about 600 households making sticky rice in the ward. Recently, the People's Committee of the ward has coordinated with the Social Policy Bank to provide preferential loans to these households, especially young people starting businesses and developing the local traditional craft.
In coordination with Tay Ho Power Company, we provide electricity at a single subsidized price for households that cook sticky rice. We organize experience-sharing sessions on sticky rice cooking from artisans of the traditional craft village to households that cook sticky rice in the area. We provide free labels, tags, and brand identification for products of the Phu Thuong traditional sticky rice craft village.
"Besides the young people in Bong, households that cook sticky rice in the ward are also working hard to research and find new ways to cook sticky rice so that it can be exported abroad," Ms. Linh added.

According to Mr. Tran Gia Hung, Head of the Economic Department of Tay Ho District, there are currently 36 OCOP products with 3-4 stars in the district, and Phu Thuong sticky rice has achieved 4 stars since 2020.
According to Mr. Hung, as a distinctive local product, sticky rice is used or displayed in any activity or festival held in the district to introduce it to a wider audience.
In 2024, Phu Thuong sticky rice was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is a source of pride for the people of Phu Thuong in particular, and the people of Tay Ho in general. It is also a responsibility for everyone to preserve and promote it.
"Currently, the Economic Department and Phu Thuong ward regularly organize study tours and research to help Phu Thuong sticky rice achieve new breakthroughs while preserving its traditional characteristics, thereby expanding its market reach globally," Mr. Hung added.
