Destinations in Thailand reopen, but Vietnamese tourists still cancel tours

(NLDO) – Some Vietnamese tourist groups going to Bangkok have canceled their tours, and travel companies are closely monitoring the situation of tourist groups currently in Thailand.

On March 30, Mr. Pham Anh Vu, Deputy Director of Viet Tourism Company, said that a group of 40 tourists scheduled to depart for Thailand on April 2 had to cancel their trip because many guests were worried about the impact of the recent earthquake.

"Customers saw the Bangkok government declare a state of emergency and wanted to reschedule their departure. Although the airline announced that flights would still depart as planned, we had to cancel the tour at the request of the customers," said Mr. Vu.

According to a reporter from the Lao Dong Newspaper, the earthquake in Myanmar at noon on March 28, which shook the capital Bangkok (Thailand), has affected the tourism industry in the land of the Golden Temple. By March 30, some tours that had adjusted their schedules to avoid the impact of the earthquake had stabilized, and some companies said they would keep their departure schedules.

Sharing with a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Vu Hoang (living in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City), said that she and her family were traveling in Bangkok, and that by this afternoon, the situation there had stabilized. She also found another hotel after the hotel where she was staying had cracked walls due to the earthquake.

According to Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Van Khanh, Marketing Director of Vietravel Tourism Company, at the time of the earthquake in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietravel served more than 20 groups of tourists. Currently, the schedule and destinations in the tour such as palaces, temples, marinas, etc. have not changed, the groups of tourists still participate in the normal schedule of sightseeing and experiencing in Thailand. For groups of tourists departing from April, Vietravel has not recorded any information about requests to cancel or postpone the tour from tourists.

"According to the latest announcement from local authorities and tour guides working in Thailand, all tourist attractions in Bangkok are currently unaffected. Vietravel tour groups are still visiting as scheduled," said Ms. Van Khanh.

Previously, on March 29, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced that the situation had returned to normal after the earthquake on March 28. Business activities have been restored and tourist and conference venues in Thailand have reopened as usual.

"Although activities have resumed, authorities will still conduct regular inspections to ensure absolute safety for tourists and residents," TAT said.

Some other travel companies such as Saigontourist Travel, Vietluxtour, Vinagroup, informed that the tour groups are still departing normally and are closely monitoring the tour situation of the group and the actual destinations in the itinerary.
