The synchronous deployment of green vehicles such as electric cars, electric buggies and high-speed trains not only helps solve the problem of traffic infrastructure overload, but also contributes to environmental protection and improves the experience of tourists.
Accordingly, the electric car will pick up visitors from Phu Long cable car station to Green Island Central Bay. The electric car schedule operates from early morning to late evening, synchronized with the Sun World Cat Ba cable car schedule and events at Green Island Central Bay City, helping visitors easily arrange their travel, experience and entertainment schedules.
The first tram line, which will be tested from April 18 to May 15, will serve tourists free of charge from Phu Long cable car station to the central bay of Xanh Island.

During the trial period, 10 electric cars operate continuously throughout the day, synchronized with the operating schedule of the Sun World Cat Ba cable car system and events taking place at Xanh Island. This helps visitors to move more conveniently, arrange their entertainment and vacation schedules on the island.
From May 16, the system will be expanded with 20 vehicles of each type, bringing the total number of trips to 150/day. A parking lot at Cat Hai cable car station is also arranged for visitors to park their personal vehicles before traveling by cable car to the island.
It is expected that in May, electric buggies will also be put into operation to serve the needs of internal travel on the island. These compact, flexible and environmentally friendly vehicles will take visitors from Cat Ba Marina (Dong Ho Bay) to the central bay of Xanh Island, as well as connecting to internal tourist attractions such as beaches, restaurants, entertainment areas, etc.
The electric car and buggy system will be the backbone of Cat Ba's carbon-free transport network, gradually replacing personal gasoline and diesel vehicles.

In parallel with developing zero-emission road transport, Sun Group also added two new high-speed train routes to increase travel options for tourists.
The Cat Hai-Cat Ba ferry route began operating on April 18, shortening travel time to just 25 minutes, taking passengers from Cat Hai marina (near Dong Bai ferry terminal) to Cat Ba marina (Dong Ho Bay).
Meanwhile, the Ha Long-Cat Ba route will officially open from May 17, connecting Ha Long International Passenger Port with Cat Ba in just 50 minutes.
To better serve the need to park before boarding the ship, the parking lot at Cat Hai Marina is being upgraded, with a roof and smart management system installed. This is a necessary preparation in the context of the sharp increase in the number of tourists to the island.
Tourists are excited to experience the electric car service on Cat Ba Island. |
In the first two months of 2025, Cat Ba welcomed more than 280,000 visitors, showing the growing attraction of the northern pearl island. However, the transport infrastructure here has not kept up with the growth rate of tourism.
The biggest bottleneck at present is Dong Bai ferry terminal - where traffic congestion often occurs, especially during peak season. At times, tourists have to queue up for several kilometers to wait for the ferry, causing fatigue and affecting the experience.
On the other hand, on the island, the number of private vehicles and passenger buses has increased rapidly, causing traffic chaos, affecting the environment and the image of ecotourism.
In that context, the operation of a public transport system using clean energy is expected to fundamentally solve the traffic problem, while contributing to changing the habit of using personal vehicles of people and tourists.
Research by EDF - the UK's Integrated Energy Agency shows that an electric car can reduce about 1.5 million grams of CO2 in just over 1 year.
The gradual replacement of gasoline and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles in Cat Ba will have great significance in protecting the island's natural ecosystem, especially mangrove forests, seas and rare wildlife species.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Nam Dinh province, shared: “I am very satisfied with the newly put into operation electric car system. It only takes a few minutes from the cable car station to the center of the island, I can enjoy the sea and forest scenery without worrying about waiting in line to get on and off the car. The electric car is new, clean, modern, and free. This will definitely make a good impression on tourists, especially foreign tourists, and they will no longer have to worry about how to get to the island.”
To prepare for an explosive summer, Sun Group Corporation not only put into operation a convenient public transport system but also introduced to residents and tourists a series of exciting entertainment events at the Green Island Central Bay City Project.
The new Cat Ba Beach (Ladies Beach) will officially open on the occasion of April 30, stretching nearly 1km with thousands of coconut trees, the show "Symphony of the Green Island" from May 23 with a scale of nearly 200 billion VND, promising to bring an unprecedented experience. VUI-Fest night market with 36 environmentally friendly stalls will also be launched, creating a rich cultural and night entertainment space.

With a long-term vision and methodical investment strategy, Sun Group is gradually positioning Cat Ba as a leading eco-tourism island, where development does not compromise the environment.
A modern, green public transport system is an important first step in the journey to realize the goal of “zero carbon emissions”, while enhancing the tourism experience and affirming Cat Ba’s position on the international tourism map.
By 2025, Cat Ba sets a target of attracting 4 million visitors.
