700 billion VND needed to renovate Long Khanh - Dau Giay railway line

Accordingly, the Railway Department proposed to renovate 19km from Long Khanh station, route Km 1649+350 to Trung Hoa station, route Km 1669+750. The total estimated investment is 700 billion VND, from medium-term public investment capital 2026-2031.

According to the Vietnam Railway Authority, the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line is 1,726.2 km long, with many sections passing through rugged terrain, high mountains, small curve radius, large longitudinal slope, low throughput capacity, and many potential risks to construction safety.

The route has 4 key areas identified as transportation bottlenecks of the route: Hoa Duyet section Km 357+200 - Thanh Luyen Km 369+393; Khe Net pass area (Km 413+700 - Km 422+450); Hai Van pass area (Km 751+600 - Km 776+880, 25.28km long); Long Khanh - Dau Giay section (Km 1649+360 - Km 1661+320).

Of which, there are currently two projects using ODA loans from the Korean Government to resolve these bottlenecks: Hoa Duyet - Thanh Luyen Section Improvement Project with a total investment of VND 1,481 billion, expected to be completed in 2027. Khe Net Pass Railway Improvement Project, with a total investment of VND 2,011 billion, is currently under construction.

Regarding the Hai Van Pass Railway Renovation Project (pre-feasibility study stage), the Ministry of Transport has assigned the Railway Project Management Board to carry out investment preparation work in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025, but it has now been temporarily suspended to coordinate synchronous research with the high-speed railway project.

There is no project to study and renovate the Long Khanh - Dau Giay section. Therefore, the Vietnam Railway Authority has proposed a project in the period of 2026-2031 to handle this bottleneck, facilitating transportation.
