AI is impacting many career positions in Latin America
Accordingly, women and young workers in the formal sector face more risks as their jobs are gradually replaced by AI and the prevalence of low-cost jobs in the informal economy.
The formal sector is understood as organized work with a relatively stable scale, where workers have regular and guaranteed jobs and wages.
According to Reuters, 26 to 38 percent of occupations in Latin America and the Caribbean are exposed to and impacted by AI in some way. AI could be beneficial, as it could improve the productivity of 8 to 14 percent of jobs. But gaps in digital infrastructure and inequality across multiple dimensions could hinder AI’s potential impact.
