Thoai Son is constantly changing and developing.

Immediately after the August Revolution in 1945, when the French colonialists returned to invade, the people of Thoai Son, with primitive weapons and the spirit of “long-term resistance” and “self-reliance”, stood up to fight steadfastly. Through flexible and creative guerrilla forms such as the “stabbing the French and snatching guns” movement, the army and people of Thoai Son gradually weakened the enemy forces and seized weapons and equipment for themselves. The smoldering fire of struggle gradually flared up into a revolutionary climax, contributing to the overall victory of the whole nation.

Entering the period of resistance war against the US to save the country, Thoai Son became one of the key areas, where fierce confrontations took place between us and the enemy. With the spirit of "not leaving an inch, not leaving a millimeter", the army and people of Thoai Son continuously attacked the enemy on all 3 fronts: Politics, military and military affairs. Resounding battles, such as: The battle against enemy ships on Hai Tran canal on March 4, 1963 (now in Tay Phu commune), sank 1 enemy ship, eliminated more than 70 security soldiers from combat. The attack on Nui Troi station on July 3, 1969 (now in An Binh commune), defeated 1 enemy platoon, captured many important weapons, went down in history as shining symbols of revolutionary heroism.

Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Thoai Son District Party Committee Nguyen Quoc Khanh said: “During the war, Thoai Son was a key pacification area in terms of politics, military and economy. Therefore, the enemy's methods of attack were very vicious and fierce, from the policy of zoning and concentrating people to the tricks of zoning, cutting routes, clearing terrain, economic blockade, religious and ethnic division... It was in such a difficult situation that the mettle and will of the people of Thoai Son were further tempered. Each cadre and soldier always upheld the spirit of self-sacrifice for the greater good, relying on the people to survive and fight. People of all walks of life, regardless of ethnicity or religion, actively participated in nurturing revolutionary cadres, contributing human and material resources to the long-term resistance war.”

Continuing the heroic tradition of his fathers, Thoai Son today wears a new, bright and vibrant appearance. Along with the general development of the country, Thoai Son has achieved many successes. From a rural area with many difficulties, Thoai Son became the first district of An Giang province to be honored by the President with two noble titles: Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the period of resistance against the US, saving the country; Hero of Labor in the period of renovation.

By 2019, the 40th anniversary of the district's re-establishment, Thoai Son continued to affirm its pioneering position when it became the first district in the province to complete the National Target Program on New Rural Development. In 2024, Thoai Son was honored to receive the certificate of recognition as an advanced new rural district, becoming the first district in the country to achieve all three noble titles: Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Hero of Labor in the renovation period and district meeting new rural standards.

The changes in Thoai Son do not stop at agricultural production. The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has been strongly implemented, creating conditions for many typical products of the district to reach out, increasing people's income. Trade and service activities are also increasingly developing, creating more jobs, helping to revitalize the local economy. The rural infrastructure system has clearly changed. Inter-commune and inter-hamlet roads have been upgraded, creating favorable conditions for travel and transportation of goods. Electricity, clean water, and communication systems have been invested in, meeting the living and production needs of the people. Cultural houses and entertainment areas have also been built, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the community. By the end of 2024, the average income per capita will reach 79 million VND/year (exceeding the resolution target by 1.3%), the average production value will reach 225 million VND/ha/year (reaching 100%), impressive numbers demonstrating the remarkable development of Thoai Son.

Secretary of Thoai Son District Youth Union Chau Minh Trung shared: “Today’s young generation, with better living, studying and working conditions, must be more aware of their role and responsibility in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period. With the spirit of “Thoai Son Youth - Pioneer - Courage - Aspiration - Dedication”, I believe that today’s young generation will continue to write glorious history on the basis of inheriting the achievements of yesterday”.
