December 2024: Organize the Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship in Quang Ninh

The 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship is one of the events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security (PPP) Traditional Day and the 20th anniversary of the National Security Day. The tournament is hosted by the Ministry of Public Security, co-organized by the Vietnam Police Sports Association and the World Police Taekwondo Federation, and will take place at the Quang Ninh Provincial Sports Complex from December 6-9.

On the afternoon of October 29, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Public Security held a ceremony to announce and inform the 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship in Vietnam, which will take place in Quang Ninh from December 6-9. Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security, attended and gave a speech. On the side of Quang Ninh province, the announcement ceremony was attended by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

The tournament is expected to attract over 2,500 participants including referees, athletes, and fans from 40 Asian countries. The tournament mascot is a Bac Ha dog in a Taekwondo costume.

The goal of the tournament is to honor the solidarity of Taekwondo police around the world; to strengthen and enhance the position of Police Taekwondo in Vietnam and of the World Police Taekwondo Federation in an effort for the health, safety and happiness of people around the world; to promote patriotism and national spirit as self-defense practitioners; to strengthen the position and image of the Vietnamese Police force; to develop high-performance sports in the Vietnam People's Public Security.

The tournament has 2 competition categories: 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship in Vietnam (Participants are police officers, officers, and soldiers from Asian countries; men and women of all ages and weight classes. Competition content includes sparring, punching, breaking, and team competition); 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Festival in Vietnam (Participants are children, teenagers, young people, and the elderly. Competition content includes sparring, punching (A/B), breaking, freestyle, Taekwondo gymnastics, and team competition).

To ensure the tournament is safe, fair and accurate, the World Police Taekwondo Federation organized a training course from October 14-17 for 79 domestic and international referees at the University of Physical Education and Sports (Tu Son, Bac Ninh).

Through the Federation's website, the Organizing Committee has received registrations from 44 Police delegations from countries and territories in Asia (expanded). The Organizing Committee continues to accept registrations from domestic and foreign groups and individuals.

This is an important foreign affairs and international cooperation event for the Vietnam People's Public Security Forces in particular and the country in general. Quang Ninh was chosen as the venue for the event because it has a lot of experience in organizing international events, the locality has a long history and culture with the World Heritage Ha Long Bay, which has been honored by UNESCO three times, and has achieved many outstanding achievements in socio-economic development in recent years.

The event is also an opportunity for the province to promote its unique culture, rich potential for tourism development, marine economy, generous and hospitable people, etc. to international friends. On the sidelines of the tournament, there will also be 2 music events with the participation of thousands of people, held on December 5 and 7 in Ha Long city.
