On the occasion of Mr. Marco Rubio being approved by the Senate and officially becoming US Secretary of State, on January 21, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son sent a letter of congratulations to the new US Secretary of State.
In the letter, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that Vietnam considers the US one of its top important partners.
With the increasingly strong relationship, nurtured over the past three decades, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs believes that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely to effectively and substantially implement the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership , meeting the legitimate interests of the people of the two countries as well as contributing to ensuring peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs invited Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit Vietnam in the year commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations (1995-2025).
The US Senate on January 20 voted to confirm Mr. Marco Rubio as Secretary of State , the first senior cabinet-level official of the new administration to be approved by this body.
He is also the first Latino to head the US State Department.
Mr. Rubio was born to Cuban immigrants in Miami and graduated with a degree in political science from the University of Florida in 1993. Mr. Rubio has been a Florida state senator since 2011.
General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh today also sent letters of congratulations to Mr. Donald Trump on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
Vietnamese leaders believe that with the leadership and support of President Trump, Vietnam-US relations will continue to develop steadily on the basis of the principle of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty and political institutions, for peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world, especially on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and two years of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
2025 marks the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
