World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam said: “This is a historic moment. The addition of six new events to the Olympic Games will not only further enhance the competition structure, but will also provide more opportunities for talented athletes to shine on the world’s biggest sporting stage. We appreciate the IOC’s support and look forward to seeing some great competition at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.”
Los Angeles - the entertainment capital of the world is also preparing to bring a special experience to fans when hosting the Swimming event at the Olympics in a unique style. SoFi Stadium, which has played host to music stars such as Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, will be transformed into a 38,000-seat outdoor pool - making it the largest Swimming venue in Olympic history.
The current record for live attendance at a swimming event is 22,209, set during the 2024 US Olympic Qualifiers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. With the grand scale of SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles 2028 promises to create new miracles not only in terms of expertise but also in terms of organization.
The Olympic programme’s innovation doesn’t stop with swimming. Women’s water polo will also see an expansion of teams, bringing the total to 12.
