The author believes that he did not naturally like the Heart Sutra. It was only by chance that after a serious illness, a friend lent him the book "The Understanding Heart" by Zen Master Nhat Hanh. After reading and pondering for 6 years, at the end of 2003, the collection "Thinking from the Heart" was published and as of 2020, the book has been reprinted 15 times. He introduced and explained the Heart Sutra in the way of a doctor, not metaphorically but with specific examples, easy-to-understand words so that anyone who reads it can easily practice.

Mr. Tran Van Toan in Dak O commune, Bu Gia Map district shared: “I also read the article “Bat Nha Tam Kinh” but did not understand anything, luckily when reading “Nghi ve trai tim” by doctor Do Hong Ngoc, I understood. It is really wonderful because someone took the time to research and explain it to me, so reading it is very easy to understand and comfortable. With the way of writing about what has been truly experienced, when writing, the author always thinks that there is a reader in front of him and is talking to him. Perhaps this writing style has made me feel that the writer and the reader are close, sharing, exchanging sincerely, without formality or distance”.

According to Dr. Do Hong Ngoc, nowadays, because people have to use their brains too much, wanting to "go crazy", mental illnesses are increasingly developing. In a society where people are always dizzy, always having to race with speed, youth, beauty, success... stress increases. And the more uncertain, anxious and stressful life is, the more suffering piles up. And people do not only have pain, people also have suffering and doctors can cure pain but not suffering!

However, thanks to studying and practicing the Heart Sutra, Dr. Do Hong Ngoc has had positive changes in both physical and mental health. He believes that peace of mind and body is essential in life. This stems from each person's attitude and way of life. Don't wait for happiness, it will never come, but must know how to recognize happiness in the present.

The author wrote this book to heal himself and also to help his patients have a book to refer to. The view of the Heart Sutra in “Thinking from the Heart” is the view of both a physician and an artist. From there, Dr. Do Hong Ngoc hopes to not only help readers heal physical pain but also soothe the anxiety and mental loss of each fate.

Maybe it's time to listen to your heart. The heart is not for thinking. The heart is for loving. When the heart thinks, it probably doesn't think like the mind. The heart has its own way of thinking that the mind often can't understand.
