It all stems from the controversy surrounding the former president Somyot Poompanmoung. This man ran the FAT for 8 years, spanning 2 terms from 2016 to 2024. He was credited with helping Thai football achieve many glories but also made wrong decisions that his successor Madam Pang is now suffering the consequences.

Mr. Somyot is said to have mismanaged finances, causing the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) to lose hundreds of billions of dong. In the latest asset inventory, Madam Pang confirmed that FAT has a debt of up to 132 million baht (equivalent to 100 billion dong). That is the debt to partners, to FIFA in the 5 million USD loan package to develop national football but has not been paid off.

The biggest debt is 360 million baht (272 billion VND). FAT was ordered by the court to pay Siam Sport media company 272 billion VND for unilaterally canceling the contract to exploit the copyright of Thai League. And no one else, Mr. Somyot is the one who pushed FAT into this situation.

Mr. Somyot is embroiled in a lawsuit with Madam Pang.

Madam Pang emphasized that in the contract Mr. Somyot signed with Siam Sport, he earned 32 million baht (24.3 billion VND). She asked her predecessor to return the above amount so that FAT could have more revenue to pay off the debt.

But Mr. Somyot denied it. He asked Madam Pang to provide evidence: “I have contributed the money received from the Football Association of Thailand and Thai League Company Limited. For example, in June 2017, the amount was 1,020,000 baht; in October 2017, the amount was 170,000 baht; in November 2017, the amount was 170,000 baht; in August 2018, it was 1,600,000 baht and in October, it was 3,600,000 baht… Therefore, I would like to know the details and documents of my donations to FAT”.

Through this, Mr. Somyot also sent a warning message to Madam Pang about her decision to sue: “I want to inform you to consider taking action. And please send me the documents I request within 7 days.”

He also did not forget to criticize Madam Pang with the statement: "When she came here, she had everything. But when I took the seat, all I had was the key."
