On the morning of April 15, in Nghi Long commune, Nghi Loc district, the district's Agricultural Service Center coordinated with ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company to organize a workshop to evaluate the TBM18 waxy corn variety model for the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop.
Attending the workshop were Mr. Nguyen Ba Diep - Vice Chairman of Nghi Loc District People's Committee, representatives of ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company, District Agricultural Service Center, leaders of Nghi Long, Nghi Xa, Nghi Trung, Nghi Thach, Khanh Hop, Thinh Truong communes and farmers from many communes in the district.

TBM18 is a glutinous corn variety carefully researched and selected by ThaiBinh Seed, recognized as a national variety by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2020. This is an early maturing corn variety, with a growing period of only 80 to 85 days, suitable for cultivation conditions in many different ecological regions. In the model implemented in Nghi Loc, the variety was sown on 1 hectare at the end of December 2024 and achieved positive results.
The test results show that the TBM18 corn variety has an average plant height of about 1.6 meters, a cob height of 65 cm, a narrow leaf angle, large leaves, and leaves that cover the cob tightly, few pests and diseases, opaque white corn kernels, semi-stone-like, sweet, sticky and delicious. The actual fresh corn yield is about 16.4 tons/ha - an impressive number compared to many other waxy corn varieties that are commonly cultivated today.

In particular, during the growth process, TBM18 corn is less affected by common pests such as fall armyworm, stem borer, corn borer. Its ability to withstand cold, drought and waterlogging is considered quite good.
Another highlight is that the TBM18 corn variety can grow well at high density, about 2,850 plants/sao without pruning or too much care. This is very suitable for the trend of mechanization and reducing labor costs in modern agriculture. In addition, the corn kernels are even, less "rat tail", the kernels almost cover the head of the corn, helping to improve quality and commercial value.

From the practical results of the model in Nghi Loc district, the district's Agricultural Service Center has proposed the need to widely replicate the TBM18 variety to gradually replace the maize varieties that have been and are showing signs of degeneration. Putting TBM18 into mass production not only helps increase productivity and quality but also brings high economic efficiency to farmers.

At the same time, ThaiBinh Seed Group is requested to continue providing quality seeds to meet the needs of expanding production. The District People's Committee is also recommended to create conditions for units to coordinate in testing more new plant varieties, suitable for soil conditions and market demand.

Not only suitable for modern consumption trends thanks to its fresh and delicious quality, TBM18 waxy corn also opens up a new direction for the local agricultural sector. In the context of climate change and pressure to increase productivity, this corn variety is expected to contribute to the strategy of sustainable and effective agricultural development and increase people's income.
