International visitors also get caught up in the joy of the special day.
Mehmet and Luca, two tourists from Germany, originally planned to stop in Ho Chi Minh City for a few days before flying to another country, but the bustling atmosphere here made them change their plans.
"We didn't know about the parade in advance. But after participating in the sideline activities and watching the rehearsal with everyone here, we decided to stay longer. It felt extremely special," Mehmet shared.

Luca also said that since attending the rehearsal, the feeling of attraction made both of them certain that they would be present at the official ceremony and would leave very early. However, they did not know where they would be because the event was so crowded and all the roads were... packed with people.
Motorbike rental shops in the city center are also bustling these days. A shop owner said: "Rental bikes are constantly sold out. Many foreign customers rent bikes to roam around the city for many days, even if they have to deposit a large amount of money, they are very willing."

Places to watch April 30 parade in Ho Chi Minh City
People can watch live at the intersections of Le Duan streets such as Nguyen Binh Khiem, Ton Duc Thang, Dinh Tien Hoang, Mac Dinh Chi, Hai Ba Trung...
In addition, the city has arranged 21 LED screens to broadcast live the ceremony at many locations, including: Phu Dong roundabout (Nguyen Trai), Ben Thanh market (Le Loi), Nguyen Hue walking street, Tao Dan park, Bach Dang wharf, Pasteur-Vo Thi Sau, Khanh Hoi bridge, Sunwah building (115 Nguyen Hue), Nguyen Kim commercial center (Tran Hung Dao), Nguyen Van Troi-Hoang Van Thu intersection, Ly Thai To roundabout (Ngo Gia Tu), Turtle Lake...
Le Huu Duy and Anh Thu excitedly shared that the atmosphere in Ho Chi Minh City these past few days has been bustling and exciting, just like Tet, when every time you open your eyes, there are festivals. Visitors from all over the world have flocked to the city, making it more and more crowded. An event that only happens once in half a century has made this place extremely special.
"Witnessing the moment when the whole country looks towards one place, we feel extremely proud. The parade gives us the opportunity to see a very different corner of the country, to clearly feel the national pride," said Huu Duy.

Our plan is to get up at 4am but it's too late to leave then. I'll probably leave at 3am.

According to this young man, although he may not be able to stand in the front row to watch the parade smoothly, just being able to join in the atmosphere is still very fun.
"We feel very honored to witness an event where the whole country is united in one heart and from one place. As students majoring in politics, on such a big holiday, we get to see a very different corner of the country and feel extremely proud," Huu Duy shared.
For Thanh Truc and her family (Hai Chau district, Da Nang city), besides the joy shared with the whole country, Truc, her mother and she also brought "personal joy" when coming to watch the grand ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Tran Thu Ha (in purple) said emotionally that her whole family came to the city to see her daughter in the parade. She said: "From the rehearsal, we were very excited, getting up at 3:30 to prepare. At 4 o'clock, we left Thu Duc and gathered at Ben Thanh market. We waited for several hours to see it, but everyone was happy."
Planning for the April 30th holiday, Thanh Truc's family decided to rent a hotel near the center because "The day before in Thu Duc, the whole family took a taxi but the road was blocked, so we had to jump on a motorbike to hurry to see it in time. This time, we will probably have to wake up at 2am to find a good spot, but even though it's hard, we will still be very happy and proud."

From young people experiencing the parade for the first time to foreign tourists visiting by chance, everyone shared an indescribable excitement.
Even if they have to wake up at 3-4am or even go without sleep, jostling among the crowd, everyone just wants to witness an event that only happens once every half century - the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
When participating in the event, visitors should note: You should eat and drink before joining the queue and waiting at the parade points. Based on previous experience, visitors should buy food and drinks in advance and bring them with them.
You should buy at places near your accommodation, you can buy in areas far from the center if you are near your accommodation, because the shops in the inner circle will often be overloaded. The situation of running out of items, having to wait in long lines, taking a long time to pay due to losing phone signal... is a reality that happened on the previous rehearsal day.

Everyone has their own way of having fun.
Many young people shared that, although they love and are currently very proud of their country Vietnam, and of Ho Chi Minh City, where they live. However, their plan for April 30 is to... stay at home.
"I will not participate in public programs and activities because I think that staying at home means giving up a position, even a small one, to international guests or people from other localities who come to Ho Chi Minh City to feel the festival atmosphere.
Personally, I will follow the program through the media and newspapers. That is the option I find most suitable for me. Each person will have their own way of expressing their love for the great national holiday," a young person confided.
The young man was very happy to have in his hands the supplement - a special publication of Nhan Dan newspaper. |
When asked about his family's plans for the upcoming April 30 holiday in Vietnam, Mr. Wardrick, from the UK, said: "During the time in the sunny South, his family "experienced" traveling at night, "choosing a place" from 3am to watch the parades and marching on the streets."

Mr. Wardrick also shared his regret at not being able to attend the official parade on April 30 and expressed his desire to learn more about Vietnamese history, especially the globally famous Vietnam War .
However, he was delighted that thanks to the gift from Nhan Dan Newspaper , with very interesting historical information conveyed in a modern way, his family was able to learn more about a period of Vietnamese history without being able to stay there directly.
Proud to be Vietnamese. |
On April 30 this year, Ho Chi Minh City was not only bustling with flags and flowers, but also bustling with hearts beating in unison. Every person, whether they chose to go out or stay at home, whether they were city residents or tourists from all over, contributed to creating an emotional festival.
The bustling footsteps, the eyes following the parade, the joyful cheers amidst the endless sea of people… all blend into a proud symphony called Vietnam. And certainly, for everyone who was present during these days, it will be an unforgettable memory.
