Every year, in mid-April, Khmer ethnic minorities in the whole province eagerly celebrate the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year. This is the time when Khmer people consider it the beginning of a new year and an opportunity to express gratitude to their ancestors and those who have contributed to the community. At the same time, they send their wishes for happiness, goodwill and respect to their ancestors, grandparents, parents... In order for Khmer ethnic minorities to celebrate the traditional New Year in a joyful, healthy, united, safe and economical spirit, localities in An Giang province in general and Tri Ton district in particular organize many practical activities.
Accordingly, the District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tri Ton district; authorities of communes and towns organized visits to Khmer Theravada pagodas. District and local leaders sent New Year greetings to the monks, venerable monks, venerable monks, monks, prestigious people and Buddhist followers for a joyful and happy new year. In addition, information was provided on some outstanding socio-economic results of the district. Most Venerable Chau Ty, Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council, on behalf of the Khmer ethnic minority people, thanked the attention of the Party leaders and local authorities for creating favorable conditions for religious and belief activities to take place smoothly. At the same time, he promised to promote the role of the pagoda in encouraging people to work hard, contribute to local activities, and contribute to building an increasingly prosperous homeland.

Sharing the joy of ethnic minorities during Chol Chnam Thmay, the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Tri Ton district to organize the 14th Khmer ethnic minority cultural, sports and tourism festival in An Giang province in 2025. The festival included many activities: Mass art performances, Khmer ethnic costume demonstrations, cultural - tourism - culinary exhibitions, traditional sports competitions, folk games, cultural exchanges, ethnic cuisine...
Ms. Mai Thi Mien (Binh My commune, Chau Phu district) said that for generations, the Khmer ethnic minority people in An Giang province have maintained recreational activities such as: performing arts, sports, temple worship... on the occasion of Chol Chnam Thmay. "Thank you to the organizers and local authorities for creating opportunities for people to interact, have fun and entertain during the traditional New Year of the Khmer ethnic minority people" - Ms. Mien shared.
Vice Chairman of Tri Ton District People's Committee Vo Thanh Tuan said that the festival is an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, exchange, learn, share experiences, create a joyful and exciting atmosphere to welcome the new year in the Khmer ethnic community in An Giang. At the same time, promote the image of the land and people of Tri Ton "poetic, affectionate" to friends near and far. According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism Truong Ba Trang, the festival has profound political and social significance. Thereby, it aims to effectively implement the Party's guidelines, policies, and laws of the State on ethnic affairs; protect and promote the cultural identity of the Khmer ethnic group in An Giang province.
