Complete transport infrastructure, create new development momentum

Việt NamViệt Nam30/04/2025

With the strategic vision of “infrastructure one step ahead”, Binh Dinh province has gradually realized the goal of comprehensive socio-economic development through strong investment in key transport projects, creating a synchronous connection axis from coastal to mountainous areas, from urban to rural areas.

Coastal transport opens the way for development

One of the vivid evidences of the transformation of coastal transport infrastructure is the De Gi sea bridge connecting Cat Khanh town (Phu Cat district) with My Thanh commune (Phu My district). Instead of having to travel dozens of kilometers or use boats to cross, people now only need a few minutes thanks to the nearly 400 m long bridge.

Along with De Gi bridge, the entire coastal route in the province, including three sections Cat Tien - De Gi, De Gi - My Thanh, Lai Giang bridge - Thien Chanh bridge, is opening up new development space for the province. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of Phu Cat District People's Committee, said: More than 4,000 hectares of coastal land in the South De Gi area is being planned into a coastal industrial - service development area, creating momentum to promote sustainable production, aquaculture and fishing.

Intra-provincial and inter-regional connecting routes are also being invested synchronously. The central route of An Nhon town to Thi Nai lagoon, with a total capital of more than 1,043 billion VND, put into operation at the end of April 2025, has opened a new trade axis from the West to the urban and tourist area along Thi Nai lagoon - Quy Nhon. Mr. Ton Ky Hai, Chairman of Phuoc Son Commune People's Committee (Tuy Phuoc), assessed: The completed route has helped Phuoc Son "change its skin". People directly benefit from smooth traffic and convenient circulation of goods.

In the North of the province, Hoai Nhon town has invested in infrastructure spread across key routes such as coastal route DT 639, the route connecting QL1 - Go Dai, Bong Son - Hoai Xuan - Hoai Huong... Mr. Nguyen Trung, 78 years old, in Hoai Huong ward, shared: After many years, I have witnessed the transportation system being invested in, growing, the roads are wide open, the roads have 4 lanes, the landscape on both sides of the road is green, with flowers and leaves blooming. Seeing my hometown change, life develop, people travel conveniently, I am very happy.

In Hoai An district - a remote midland area, it is also constantly changing. Projects such as Hiep Dinh flood bridge, roads, power stations, Tu Luc bridge... are gradually eliminating geographical barriers, helping people to trade easily and develop agricultural and forestry production more effectively.

In fact, many enterprises when coming to Binh Dinh to seek investment opportunities have been convinced by the transport infrastructure. Mr. Nguyen Van Lang, General Director of Becamex Binh Dinh Joint Stock Company, shared: The route connecting National Highway 19 to Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Industrial Park has a total investment of more than VND 1,170 billion, helping to shorten the distance to 16.5 km. Many investors have proposed that the province pay attention to early construction of a railway connecting Becamex Industrial Park to the deep-water port and Phu My Industrial Park, in order to reduce logistics costs and increase competitiveness for the industrial - seaport area.

At the inauguration ceremony of the connecting road from National Highway 19 to Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Industrial Park at the end of March 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung suggested to Binh Dinh province that it is necessary to determine that this is not simply a traffic route but must turn it into an economic corridor, closely plan both sides of the route, well plan the land fund along the route, and exploit it effectively.

Comprehensive connection, sustainable development

At the field inspection of the Phu Cat Airport Upgrade and Expansion Project in February 2025, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized: Transportation is an important foundation for exploiting potentials, advantages, and sustainable socio-economic development. A synchronous road system not only facilitates travel, but also promotes investment attraction, expands urban space, effectively exploits land funds, and improves people's lives.

According to Mr. Luu Nhat Phong, Director of the Provincial Traffic and Civil Works Project Management Board, the province is preparing the necessary conditions to strive to start 7 major projects in 2025, with a total investment of up to 57,867 billion VND, including: Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway (123 km, 38,917 billion VND, phase 2025 - 2030) to open a strategic connection corridor between the Central Coast and the Central Highlands. Western road of the province (104.76 km, 9,594 billion VND, phase 2025 - 2030) to strengthen connectivity in mountainous areas, promote investment in agriculture - forestry and ecotourism. Runway No. 2 of Phu Cat Airport (3,246 billion VND, phase 2025 - 2028) to improve air transport capacity, meeting the demand for tourism growth. Investing in the route connecting the North-South Expressway to Phu My Industrial Park and Phu My Port (16.37 km, 2,115 billion VND) and the route to Hoai My Industrial Park (10.43 km, 1,501 billion VND), completing the strategic industrial - logistics network; the road connecting National Highway 1 to De Gi Port (17.3 km, 1,432 billion VND) and the road from Quy Hoa Science Urban Area to Long Van (13.5 km, 1,107 billion VND) to develop urban infrastructure and science and technology.

At a working session with provincial leaders in March 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh noted that Binh Dinh needs to proactively implement three strategic breakthroughs: Institutions, infrastructure and human resources, of which transportation is the “backbone”. The Prime Minister requested the province to accelerate site clearance, ensure the lives of resettled people, complete ongoing projects, and prepare to participate in national-scale projects such as the North-South high-speed railway.

With high political determination, clear orientation and strong resources, Binh Dinh province's transport infrastructure system is increasingly being improved, not only serving travel needs but also paving the way for comprehensive development, making Binh Dinh a bright spot in terms of infrastructure and development in the Central Highlands region.
