Destroying the Phan Thiet outpost

Binh Thuan is the southernmost province of the South Central Coast, bordering Ninh Thuan from the North, Xuan Loc, Long Khanh (Dong Nai) from the South. During the resistance war against the US to save the country, Binh Thuan was divided into two provinces: Binh Thuan and Binh Tuy.

According to documents of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Binh Thuan province, Phan Thiet was the administrative and military center of the puppet government of Binh Thuan province, so the enemy arranged defenses with strong military forces. However, the liberation troops continuously broke in and destroyed, causing many losses to the enemy, such as destroying the enemy cluster at Duc Long bus station (December 8, 1974), destroying the enemy cluster in Phu My (December 14, 1974) and destroying the Xuan Phong bunker cluster, causing the enemy to panic and have to mobilize forces to strengthen the defense of the town, creating favorable conditions for the armed forces of the districts to attack the enemy to expand the disputed areas and liberated areas, bringing the revolutionary movement of Binh Thuan province to a higher level of development. In some places, the enemy launched counterattacks in an attempt to recapture the lost areas, but could not turn the situation around.

After Phan Rang fell, Phan Thiet became the outpost of the Saigon government from the East. At dawn on April 18, 1975, Regiment 812 of Military Region VI coordinated with Battalion 482 and a number of local armed forces to simultaneously attack Thien Giao Sub-region (Ma Lam).

After nearly a day of fierce fighting, we took control of the Ma Lam District and District, destroyed the important stronghold protecting the North of Phan Thiet, and shook the enemy's system of outposts. The enemy resisted fiercely, sending many battalions with the support of artillery and counter-attack aircraft, but were all repelled by our troops.

At noon on April 18, 1975, the Coastal Army attacked and took control of the districts of Phan Ri, Tuy Phong, Song Mao, Hoa Da, and approached Phan Thiet town. At 8:00 p.m. on April 18, 1975, our army crossed Phu Long bridge and attacked Phan Thiet with 3 prongs - the main prong followed Highway 1 to attack the administrative sub-district, then followed Binh Hung road to block the Thuong Chanh seaport; the second prong from Phu Long followed Phuoc Thien Xuan road, circled down to Phu Hai, and captured Lau Ong Hoang, blocking the enemy from retreating to Mui Ne; the third prong bypassed all targets in the town along Highway 1, and advanced to capture Cang Esepic.

When our tanks rushed in to block the entrance of the sub-regional command post and the administrative building, the enemy panicked and fled in all directions. At 10:30 p.m. on April 18, 1975, we completely controlled Phan Thiet town. At 9 a.m. on April 19, 1975, the Military Management Committee took over Phan Thiet. Binh Thuan was liberated, opening an important path to the great victory of Spring 1975.

After 51 days and nights (March 8 - April 27, 1975) of continuous attacks and uprisings, the army and people of Binh Thuan and Binh Tuy completely liberated their homeland, contributing with the army and people of the whole country to establish the great victory of Spring 1975, completely liberating the South and unifying the country. Over 21 years of steadfast fighting, the army and people of Binh Thuan achieved many glorious feats, worthy of the 12 golden words that the Party and State awarded: "Self-reliance, self-strengthening, heroic fighting, glorious victory".

Mr. Bui The Nhan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan, acknowledged that in the period (1954 - 1975), the Party Committee of Binh Thuan province organized and led the resistance war according to the guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam, affirming the role of organizing and leading the revolutionary movement of the local Party Committee, which was the decisive factor in all victories.

The government and people of Binh Thuan province waged an extremely arduous, fierce and sacrificial resistance war against the US to save the country. They promoted the will of self-reliance and self-strengthening together with the army and people of the whole country to carry out a general offensive and uprising, creating a historic victory to liberate Binh Thuan province on April 19, 1975 and contributing to the complete liberation of the South on April 30, 1975, reunifying the country.

Confidently entering the new era

Mr. Bui The Nhan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province, said: After the liberation of the homeland and the country, the cadres and people of Binh Thuan province started to build the government apparatus, restore production, develop the socio-economy... and especially develop the three pillars of Agriculture - Industry - Tourism. After 50 years of construction, innovation and development, the entire army and people in the province have strived, overcome many difficulties and challenges, and achieved important and relatively comprehensive results.

After 50 years of liberation, especially 33 years since the re-establishment of the province (1992), Binh Thuan has transformed from an economically underdeveloped province to a fairly developed one. In 2024, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the province will increase by 7.25%, higher than the national average. The economic scale will reach over 128 trillion VND, ranking 26th out of 63 provinces and cities...

The marine economy continues to develop, coastal and island infrastructure is invested in and upgraded to serve development needs well. In the period of 2021 - 2025, the province attracted an estimated total social development investment capital of VND 225,137 billion, an average increase of 11.23%/year. Binh Thuan attracted 8 FDI projects with a total registered capital of more than 4 billion USD.

Tourism, trade and service activities continue to develop steadily, the number of tourists and tourism revenue continues to grow, the number of tourists and tourism revenue continuously increases year by year; from 2020 to present, the whole province has welcomed more than 35 million visitors; tourism revenue is estimated at over 93,000 billion VND; in which the average tourism revenue in recent years has reached over 20,000 billion VND.

The fields of culture, society, education and training, science and technology, health, information and communication continue to develop; social security policies are implemented synchronously and effectively; the work of gratitude and care for policy families is well implemented; people's lives are increasingly improved. The province is striving to complete the goals of building new rural areas.

The people's livelihood, economy and society of ethnic minority areas have been given attention and developed comprehensively. Policies, programs and programs for economic and social development, the provision of materials and goods for production and life of ethnic minorities have been well implemented, contributing to poverty reduction, maintaining security and order; the appearance of ethnic minority areas has improved a lot.

Over the past 50 years, it can be proudly affirmed that the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Thuan have strived to overcome all difficulties and poverty, joining hands to build their homeland Binh Thuan with great strides and many outstanding highlights.
