Lang Market Banyan Tree - Cultural symbol in the rice fields of Nghe An
In the middle of Tay Thanh countryside, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An), there is a "historical witness" that has stood tall for hundreds of years - the Lang market banyan tree. Not only providing shade for many generations of people, this banyan tree is also a cultural symbol and a source of deep pride for the local community.

Locals say that although a large branch once broke during the market, the strange thing is that no one was injured, making people believe even more that this is a sacred tree, a place where gods reside. Every time there is a market, people in An Quang hamlet and neighboring areas often gather to rest and chat under the banyan tree. Photo: Xuan Hoang Chairman of Tay Thanh Commune People's Committee - Mr. Nguyen Cong Trieu said that the height of the banyan tree is more than 40m, the canopy of the tree covers Lang market with an area of about 3,000m2 . The banyan tree being recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree has contributed to raising community awareness in preserving cultural and historical values. The government and people join hands to preserve and care for the tree as if preserving a part of the memories and beliefs of the homeland. Yen Thanh district is a land rich in tradition with many ancient trees that have been recognized as heritage trees, such as the 800-year-old ebony tree, the nearly 1,000-year-old banyan tree in Ly Thanh commune, or the ancient tree complex at Duc Hoang temple.
