This result mainly comes from the boom of the international tourist market, lower fuel prices compared to the same period, along with efforts to operate flexibly and effectively.

International tourist market leads growth in output and revenue

In the first 3 months of 2025, the number of international passengers to Vietnam reached about 11.7 million, up 13.3% over the same period; the number of domestic passengers reached more than 9 million, up 3.6%.

Following the strong recovery momentum, Vietnam Airlines Group is estimated to have transported nearly 6.2 million passengers, of which Vietnam Airlines alone transported more than 6 million, up 6.7% and 6.5% respectively over the same period last year.

International market regions all recorded positive growth, with the Indian market increasing the most at 26.6%, followed by the Middle East at 25.8%, and Northeast Asia at 13.6%.

The quality of international visitors has also improved significantly, especially in high-revenue markets such as Japan, Australia and India. High-revenue visitors from Japan have recovered, reaching nearly 90% compared to the same period in 2019 (same period in 2024 recovered 60%).

Vietnam Airlines' consolidated revenue in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated at nearly VND 31,107 billion; pre-tax profit reached nearly VND 3,625 billion. Parent company Vietnam Airlines achieved revenue of nearly VND 25,019 billion and pre-tax profit of nearly VND 3,044 billion.

Fuel prices move favorably, freight transport supports production and business efficiency

Vietnam Airlines benefits from average fuel prices remaining at around $91/barrel in the first quarter of 2025, nearly 5% lower than the average in 2024 and much lower than forecast, thereby improving cost efficiency.

Besides passenger transport, freight transport also recorded positive results, with revenue in the first 3 months of 2025 exceeding the plan by more than 220 billion VND, contributing significantly to profit growth.

In the context of Pratt & Whitney (PW) engine recall, Vietnam Airlines has proactively adjusted flight schedules and optimized operating slots. Aircraft operating efficiency increased by nearly 10% compared to the same period last year, significantly improving operational efficiency.

Vietnam Airlines also proactively maintains a stable domestic flight network, allocates reasonable flight schedules, optimizes resources during international peak periods, and leases additional aircraft.

Along with positive business results, Vietnam Airlines implemented many outstanding activities in the first quarter of 2025, consolidating its brand position in the domestic and international markets.

In the field of financial cooperation, the airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth USD 560 million with Citibank; signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Vietcombank; and signed with VNPT to deploy in-flight internet service (IFC) for the Airbus A350 fleet, marking a new step in the strategy to enhance passenger experience.

In the international market, Vietnam Airlines has continuously launched and restored many key routes such as Hanoi - Bengaluru, is preparing to open another route Hanoi - Hyderabad, and resume flights to Northeast Asia.

In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam Airlines continued to make its mark with many prestigious awards: "Asia's Leading Cultural Airline" and "Vietnam's Best Airline for In-flight Services" by World Travel Awards; for the first time appearing in the "Top 25 Safest Airlines in the World" and "Top 25 Best Airlines in the World" voted by AirlineRatings.com; and continued to be honored with the "World's Best Value Premium Economy" award for the second consecutive time.
