Thuy Lam commune is famous for the Sai temple relic. Sai temple is a place that bears the mark of fierce battles and heroic feats of famous general Ly Thuong Kiet, the talented general who commanded the army and people of Dai Viet to defeat the invading army of the Song Dynasty on the Cau River front in the 11th century, and restrained the horses of the Yuan-Mongol army in the 13th century.
In terms of military position, with a not-so-far distance and the presence of mounds, Sai Temple is like a defensive rampart from afar for Co Loa Citadel to the North. That position has great military significance, creating an advantage for Co Loa Citadel when the army and people of Au Lac fought against the invaders Trieu Da. In 1010, King Ly Cong Uan moved the capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La to build Thang Long Citadel; in 1011, King Ly came to Sai Temple and invited the descendant of Huyen Thien from Sai Temple to build a temple next to West Lake in the North of Thang Long Citadel (ie Quan Thanh Temple) to honor him as the god guarding the North of Thang Long Citadel. Sai Temple Festival has been listed in the National Intangible Heritage List and has been preserved, passed down, embellished, and present in the material and spiritual life of generations of people in the district, becoming an invaluable resource for today and tomorrow.
The historical relic of Sai Temple was recognized as a national relic in 1986 with the custom of "Welcoming the Fake King". Legend has it that King An Duong Vuong was helped by Saint Huyen Thien Tran Vu to eliminate demons to build the citadel. To show gratitude for building Kim Khuyet Cung Temple (today's Sai Temple), every year, the King would return to pay homage, but later, seeing that traveling was a waste of people's money, he allowed the people of Thuy Loi village to "practice the ritual of the Emperor, claiming the title" to pay homage to Saint Huyen Thien on behalf of the King... From there, the festival of Welcoming the Fake King was formed, which has been passed down from generation to generation until today.
