Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Yen Chi, Chair of the workshop, said that this workshop aims to clarify the goal of "Strategy for developing cultural industries in the period of 2020 - 2030" of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, thereby having strategic orientations for the development of Ho Chi Minh City in terms of literature and arts, including the genre of literary drama.

According to insiders, currently in Ho Chi Minh City, a literary drama genre full of Southern character of Nguyen Ngoc Tu has been formed with plays such as: "Doi Nhu Y", "Do Tinh", "Cai Oi", "Nua Doi Ngo Ngac", "Rau Ram O Lai", "Mo Trang Bong Nuoc", "Mut Chi Mat Ca Tha", "Tra Lai Lia Thia"... and has been well received by the audience. When the professional team is knowledgeable about literature, their sympathy will effectively exploit the literary treasure, through which the audience will enjoy plays with valuable content.
Experts say that Ho Chi Minh City is one of the educational centers of the country, with many universities, colleges, secondary schools and scientific research facilities. This is an opportunity for literary theater because it can attract many students, teachers, scientists... who have a high demand for entertainment and learning.
"For people with high education, literary drama is a high-class art form, bringing profound aesthetic and ideological experiences" - author Bui Quoc Bao said.
Researchers, artists, and journalists participated in the workshop "Vietnamese Dramatic Literature from 1986 to present".
Many insiders are upset because there is still a situation where literary plays are rambling, insignificant, and just acts to please the audience, only to end up with a forced and dogmatic message. This way of doing things distorts the value of literary plays, making them less effective in education.
MSc. Nguyen Thi Bich Phuong pondered: "More than 10 years ago, Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema established the Young Directors Club, a place to promote literary works. But unfortunately, for many reasons, it could not be maintained."
Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema should consider establishing a Drama Literature Club with a specific mechanism to maintain its activities. From a playground gathering young authors with talent for writing and appreciating literature, organizing training and exchanges with authors who have succeeded in writing literary scripts, writers and dividing them into fields: Vietnamese literature, history; world literature; adaptations from short stories, novels... From this playground, it will practically contribute to improving the quality of literary drama works for Ho Chi Minh City's drama stage - many artists have proposed.
Many opinions say that literary theater also needs works aimed at specific audiences: children, young people, middle-aged people, audiences who like to contemplate and ponder, comedy, tragedy, experimental drama... Currently, comedy is the trend and causes an imbalance in art appreciation.
Many insiders said that young actors have now discovered the form of cafe drama, and young writers have more playgrounds for new creativity. Authorities need to soon have orientations and support for this type of drama, directing young generations of artists towards the trend of literary drama with plays with profound content, instead of just performing silly comedies.
