In the 63kg semi-final, Ha Thi Linh met strong opponent Thananya Somnuek (Thailand), the number 1 seed of the tournament. Somnuek won a bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games as well as at the 2024 Asian Championship. Last year, this boxer won a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Although she had performed impressively in the previous rounds, having to continuously exert herself through many matches made the Vietnamese female boxer somewhat out of breath in the face of her opponent's fast, overwhelming fighting style.
After three intense rounds, the referee scored the victory 5-0 in favor of Somnuek, with the scores being 29/28, 30/26, 30/27, 29/27, 30/27. Stopping in the semi-finals, Ha Thi Linh won the bronze medal - marking an important milestone in her career when she stepped onto the medal podium for the first time at the world championship.
This bronze medal is also the only title of the Vietnamese boxing team at this year's tournament. Previously, Vo Thi Kim Anh (54kg weight class) and Hoang Ngoc Mai (70kg weight class) stopped at the quarter-finals.
"Through the tournament, the coaching staff will have professional analysis in each weight class so that we can continue to prepare for the next international missions in 2025," said Mr. Dam Cong Dien , leader of the Vietnamese boxing team.
Ha Thi Linh was born in 1993 in Lao Cai, a Tay ethnic. She started her boxing career at the age of 12 and quickly asserted her talent with many impressive achievements. Despite having given birth twice, Ha Thi Linh still returned to the ring strongly, winning the 2023 SEA Games gold medal. In 2024, she excellently won a ticket to the Paris Olympics , becoming the pride of Vietnamese boxing.
