According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 5.18 million tons of rice with a turnover of 3.27 billion USD, up 25.1% in volume and 5.8% in value over the same period last year.
This was partly due to the high export price of Vietnamese rice. The average export price of rice reached 632 USD/ton, an increase of more than 18% compared to the same period last year.
India's ban on the export of all types of regular rice, except for white basmati rice, has caused rice prices in the world market to increase. As a result, rice exporting countries such as Vietnam and Thailand have seen their rice export value increase. The Philippines continues to be a major export market for Vietnamese rice. In the Philippines, Vietnam currently accounts for 85% of the imported rice market share.
According to forecasts, Vietnam's rice production in 2024 will reach 43 million tons, ensuring domestic demand and exporting more than 5 billion USD. Up to now, despite many difficulties due to harsh weather, the Vietnamese rice industry has maintained stability.
