“This is not only an opportunity to recognize the brilliant achievements but also to reflect on the core values that Gia Lai literature and art has preserved and promoted over the past half century” - that is the comment of Meritorious Artist Dang Cong Hung - Vice Chairman in charge of the Provincial Literature and Art Association when looking back on the development journey of a specialized color, cultivating the spiritual and cultural life after the country's reunification.

In the years after the war, Gia Lai faced countless hardships but from there rose strongly, fostering and nurturing unique national cultural values, creating a solid foundation for the development of literature and art here.
Over the past 50 years, Gia Lai Literature and Arts has affirmed its solid position through the connection between tradition and modernity. Famous names such as painter Xu Man, cultural researcher Ro Mah Del, People's Artist Y Brom, People's Artist Xuan La, Meritorious Artist Thao Giang and many other artists have left a deep impression on the public. Their works not only vividly reflect the life and people of Gia Lai but also create a symbol of a land full of potential; contributing to preserving traditional values while accepting new elements from the world.
Along with that, we cannot fail to mention other names such as Van Cong Hung, Pham Duc Long, Huong Dinh, Chu Anh Dao, Thu Loan (literature); Le Xuan Hoan, Ngoc Tuong, Thao Nam Giang, Phi Ung (music); Le Hung, Ho Thi Xuan Thu, Mai Quy Ngoc, Nguyen Chung, Nguyen Vinh (fine arts); Meritorious Artist Quang Tam (dance); Tran Phong, Huy Tinh, Pham Duc, Hung Hoa Lu, Nhat Hanh, Nguyen Ngoc Son, Nguyen Linh Vinh Quoc (photography)...
These artists have portrayed a vivid picture of the people and culture of the Central Highlands, creating works of art that are not only rich in form but also profound in content, reflecting the diversity and characteristics of the ethnic minority communities here.
Artist Ho Thi Xuan Thu shared: 2025 marks 40 years since she set foot in Gia Lai - her second homeland. Living and painting in the Central Highlands for the past few decades, the female artist has wanted to renew herself with other topics besides village stories, women's stories, and festivals.
“But there is something that keeps me faithful to the communal houses, stilt houses, tombs, poles, baskets, brocade clothes, mountains, streams, green forests, red soil, the footsteps of women on the fields, the eyes and smiles of children, the majestic and immense sound of drums and gongs of men, the intoxicating aroma and sweetness of jars of rice wine...” - artist Xuan Thu confided.

Also a long-time companion in the half-century development of Gia Lai's art and culture after the country's reunification, photographer Huy Tinh affirmed: Photography has effectively participated in journalism, history, culture, museum preservation, tourism, and promoting the province's image... One of the outstanding events he mentioned was that in the 90s of the last century, photographers from the province contributed to creating 3 photo collections about the land, people, and development potential of Gia Lai, including 200 photos displayed at the Independence Palace (Ho Chi Minh City) to contribute to calling for investment.
Photographer Huy Tinh informed: Currently, the Photography major has 15 Central members and 19 members of the Provincial Association. With quality works in regional, national and international competitions, the Photography major plays an important role in introducing and promoting the image of the country, people, culture and tourism as well as the strengths of the province.
“Over the past 50 years, we have witnessed rapid changes in technology, from black and white film to color film, from manual to industrial, then to digital transformation, application of artificial intelligence... Therefore, each individual artist must learn on their own to keep up with the development,” Mr. Tinh emphasized.
Contributing a voice of young authors in the development journey of the province's literature and arts over the past half century, author Lu Hong acknowledged: Young writers in Gia Lai are fortunate to enjoy the good values of a long-standing cultural and social life, to have access to domestic and foreign literary heritages; most of all, to be supported by the strong development of media and social platforms.
In recent years, the young creative force of Gia Lai has been large in number and rich in potential in writing skills such as: Hoang Thanh Huong, Ngo Thanh Van, Dao An Duyen, Le Vi Thuy, Le Thi Kim Son, Truong Thi Chung, Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy...
Commenting that young literature sometimes fails to keep up with the changes of the times, homeland, and country, fails to touch the common feelings, and lacks breakthroughs... author Lu Hong believes: "Please do not be quick to doubt, worry, or doubt, but first of all, give Gia Lai's young literature love, encouragement, and trust. Because each individual in that literature is every day, every hour, in one way or another, trying to contribute to Gia Lai's literature and arts. I believe that young writers know what they must do to develop their own internal strength into a lasting force field."
According to Meritorious Artist Dang Cong Hung, despite many proud achievements, Gia Lai Culture and Arts still faces major challenges in the current context such as: the rapid development of technology, the fading of traditional cultural identity and some "barriers" in terms of facilities and creative resources...
“So how do we preserve and promote traditional cultural values, while constantly creating and innovating? The answer probably lies in the harmonious combination of preserving core values and embracing new trends.
We need to build a creative space where artists can exchange, learn and develop, while still maintaining the local cultural identity. At the same time, support from state management agencies, cultural organizations and the community will play a key role in creating a strong Gia Lai culture and arts, capable of facing and overcoming the challenges of the times" - Vice Chairman in charge of the Provincial Culture and Arts Association proposed.
