After the trial on the morning of April 21, Ms. Truong My Lan (Chairwoman of Van Thinh Phat) was unable to get back the two albino Hermès bags that she wanted to keep as souvenirs. The jury assessed that these were assets derived from criminal proceeds, so they continued to be confiscated.
The two bags that Ms. Truong My Lan mentioned are the Hermès Birkin Himalaya. The distinctive color makes many people mistakenly believe that the bag is made from albino crocodile skin. In fact, the white and gray colors on the Birkin Himalaya bag are the result of a sophisticated dyeing process, created by the French fashion house's master craftsmen.
The Hermès Birkin Himalaya has always been a difficult bag to own, due to its scarcity and high price. This is also a famous leather design in the history of fashion, considered a classic symbol of the French fashion house's leather crafting techniques.
But when it comes to the bags with the highest resale value in the world, experts don't name this design first.
Gucci Jackie 1961 Bag
The Vogue writer first mentioned Gucci’s Jackie 1961 design in the article published last March. Originally called the Fifties Constance, the bag was renamed after former First Lady Jackie Kennedy used it as a shield from paparazzi.

In 2020, Alessandro Michele reissued this classic, officially becoming the brand's central design. Representing a moment in fashion culture and a fashion icon, the bag has all the hallmarks of style that will forever retain its value. From here, a collector's item was born.
Kelly McSweeney, senior director of merchandising at The Real Real, says of the 1961 Jackie: "We continue to see strong demand for both current and vintage versions, with the average selling price up 24% year-over-year."
"With the resurgence of vintage trends, the Jackie bag has made a comeback. Its timeless design and connection to Gucci's heritage solidify its position on the resale market," says Landyn Tedrick, a sales specialist at Fashionphile.

Chanel Classic Flap Bag
Gucci's 1961 Jackie bag is certainly not the only resale success story.
This year, it was Chanel that broke the record for retained value. According to Elizabeth Layne, Rebag’s marketing director, the Classic Flap is the most sought-after handbag style from the house in 2024.

While the Chanel Classic Single Flap has maintained an average retained value of around 100% over the years, the standout this year is the Classic Single Flap Top Handle Bag.
This modern reinterpretation of the iconic style features a top strap for added functionality. It retails for $7,100-$7,800.
Elizabeth Layne adds that the Wallet on Chain is another sought-after item from the brand this year. Landyn Tedrick agrees that these styles are iconic pieces that always attract attention for their versatility and timeless appeal.
“These bags not only dominate the search trends, but also have high resale value thanks to Chanel's reputation for quality craftsmanship and their continued desirability in the luxury market,” he shares (Photo: Chanel, PurseBlog).
The Row Margaux Bag
Ranking high alongside Chanel’s trending products is a completely different bag, a must-have for the modern era: The Row’s Margaux bag. Depending on the size, the bag retails for $3,650-6,400.
The Olsen twins (founders) once explained to Vogue (UK): "The whole test was: Can something that is beautifully made, in a great fabric, fits well, sell without a logo or a name on it?".

Of course, the experiment was a success and the bag has been redesigned several times since its inception. The Margaux is instantly recognisable, hard to come by and has a huge fan base that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Kendall Jenner and Zöe Kravitz…
“The resale value of this bag is three times higher than in 2020,” said Stacey Chia, Head of Communications at Vestiaire.
Kelly McSweeney of The Real Real agrees: "This bag is selling for an average of 177% of its suggested retail price, with the average selling price up $1,650 from last year" (Photo: Vogue, WhoWhatWear).
Bottega Veneta Andiamo Bag
While all of Bottega Veneta's intrecciato weaves are in high demand, Andiamo "sells for an average of 90 percent of retail price," says Kelly McSweeney of The Real Real.
According to statistics at Vestiaire, the resale value of this bag has doubled compared to 2020. Currently, the company announced the selling price for the bag model at 5,500 USD (more than 143 million VND) (Photo: British Vogue, Grazia).

Fendi Baguette Bag
Rebag experts note that the Fendi Baguette is ranked #1 when it comes to most sought-after bags. And for good reason: “What could be more iconic than Fendi’s signature Baguette?”
"The Fendi Baguette, first introduced in 1997, is the second most valuable Fendi bag style in 2023, with an average value retention rate of 113%," says Elizabeth Layne, marketing director at Rebag.
This bag still holds its place on the vintage designer lovers' list in 2024. Depending on the size and pattern, the Baguette bag currently retails from $1,390 (over 36 million VND) and can go up to $9,000 (over 234 million VND) (Photo: Forbes).

Hermes Birkin 35 Bag
In addition to the above names, Toteme's T-Lock bag, Loewe's XL Puzzle Fold, Balenciaga's medium Le City, Savette Hobo, Christian Dior's Lady Dior, Celine Nimo are also on the list. Louis Vuitton has the High Rise, OnTheGo and Bum are also named.
Notably, according to Rebag’s report, the Hermès Birkin is ranked No. 1 in bags that will retain their value through 2024, with a 250% retention rate. Pre-owned retailers agree that the Hermès Birkin keeps coming back on the list as a classic and timeless item.

“We’re seeing a shift to larger Birkin styles, with the average selling price up $900 since last year and selling for an average of 134% of retail,” McSweeney said.
Vestiaire says that, depending on budget, a Hermès Birkin is always a good investment.
Tedrick from Fashionphile agrees: "Considered the gold standard in luxury handbags, Birkins often increase in value due to their exclusivity, craftsmanship, and high demand, especially for limited editions or rare color and material combinations."
Currently, the shopping platform The Real Real is selling the Birkin 35 line with prices starting at $12,000 (more than 312 million VND) (Photo: WWD).
