“Participating in career counseling activities, we learned a lot of new and necessary information about the meaning of vocational training and choosing the right major” - Nguyen Thi Truc Lam, a 9th grade student at Thanh Quoi Secondary School, Vinh Thanh District, expressed her excitement after the career counseling session, co-organized by the City Social Work Center. Lecturers from Can Tho Vocational College provided students with useful information about the labor market, the need to choose the right major and career; enrollment targets, admission methods for occupations, policies, jobs after graduation, etc. According to Mr. Dang Hao Tam, Vice Principal of Thanh Quoi Secondary School, the information provided at the counseling session will help students form the awareness of choosing the right major, studying the right profession, and having a suitable job in the future. The school hopes that the relevant authorities will pay attention to organizing many career communication sessions so that students can accumulate practical and useful information.

Contributing to building a safe and friendly learning environment, the thematic activity "Building beautiful friendships - Say no to school violence" co-organized by the City Social Work Center at Tran Ngoc Hoang Secondary and High School, Co Do District took place lively. Staff of the Social Work Center told stories about school violence with diverse forms and manifestations, helping students understand the concept, recognize the causes, distinguish the forms and ways to respond to school violence. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu, Head of the Counseling Department, City Social Work Center, said: "The Center reminds and hopes that students will make efforts to build beautiful friendships, prevent school violence with kindness, compassion and community responsibility".

Faced with the widespread occurrence of accidents and injuries, the Center has increased the organization of communication activities on “prevention of child injuries” in secondary schools. Thereby, helping children gain an understanding of the types of accidents and injuries: traffic accidents, drowning, burns, electric shock, insect bites, sharp object punctures, etc., analyzing the causes and proposing solutions to prevent, avoid, and minimize risks, ensuring safety for children.

Connecting school, family and society

Implementing the plan to improve the effectiveness of the social work model in schools in 2025, the City Social Work Center organizes many communication activities and thematic activities at secondary and high schools. Thereby, helping students to be educated and develop in a safe and friendly environment. In addition, the Center continues to coordinate to maintain and expand activities, provide technical support, and documents for periodic activities at 22 Tuoi Hong club models; organize training to improve the capacity of the board of directors; communication activities to raise awareness, educate life skills for members... Mr. Pham Dinh Tung, Head of the Truong Long Youth Club, Phong Dien district, said: "Established in 2015, the club has 50 members. Currently, all members have good conduct, average academic performance or above. Every year, the club's board of directors actively mobilizes, connects and supports students and members with special circumstances to continue studying, practicing, and gradually forming good personalities."

According to Mr. Ho Thanh Hai, Director of the City Social Work Center, most of the social work model activities in schools in recent times have received the coordination and consensus of schools, families and especially the active response of students. With diverse information channels, organizational forms, the model promotes coordination and connection between relevant agencies and individuals, creating a sustainable support system, improving the effectiveness of prevention and intervention for social issues, directly affecting children. The Center will continue to coordinate to expand the organization of self-protection skills education activities, provide psychological support for schools, establish a network of counseling and support for students in difficult circumstances... Thereby, ensuring the good implementation of the role and responsibility of protecting, caring for and educating children in the new period.
